server death = BAD!

well early post today. why? i am still awake. :) I went to the office where my servers are stored to do a memory upgrade on a client server. Well I noticed “Hey his bios is old, i’ll do an upgrade it should help with his speed issues” well that was a mistake. The disk I used to flash the bios was bad or the new memory was bad, or something entirey different. SOOOO I killed the client board.

So first thought “O-MY-GOD” so I decided to take a small side bar and pray about it, because this was not a solution at 1am I as planing to make, I thought “lets put this memory in, life is good, everyones happy, chuck gets sleep.

Well it hit me, my NS2 is the same board :) so after a quick shutdown, and reboot with the client hard drive powering my NS2 life was once again happy!

So now I have no NS2, but a lot of good hardware sitting around. Anyone know any tips for restoring bad BIOS? or a company that isnt going to charge me the motherboard’s worth and a half.

Any leads are appriciated, as for this man, I am off to the land of Zzzz. :)

  1. Have you tried putting the bios stuff on a new disk? That *could* work. Or if you pass on the motherboard model on, I could try to find info on what a new BIOS would cost (I’ve seen some go for around $30-$40).

  2. try http://www.sysopt.com/articles/recoverbios/index.html

It worked for me when I screwed up a bios update recently.

  3. Yeah – I got a spare BIOS from a friend – swaped it out and got it working again.
