Upstream/Downstream? Here we go again…

A few years back I went with a company for my backbone connection for servers, and had lets say… mixed results lol - I am sure Jon can recall some of my insanely late nights and early mornings - well for the new office we needed to deploy sooner than later, and since the company had undergone some re-structure, my brother and I looked at cost, speeds, deploy time, and well the old company came up first. Well some issues, not sure as to what they are yet have come up.

Basically downstream gets hoppy. Basically one minute it’s getting everything, data flowing in fine, fast, friendly, then nothing. Services like FTP/IM still show us as online (because the upstream connection is still there sending commands) but we get no replies - it comes and goes, and in recent days has gotten worse - so Monday morning we are going to go item by item on the network, make sure beyond a shadow of a doubt it’s not us, then call them and see whats going on.

Had similar issues when I had a line, however it was vice versa, Up vs Down - but we can hope it can be ironed out soon since we can’t get Metro Ethernet just yet… but hopefully soon - I am willing to bet it’s the device they gave us, as 2 tech’s on previous speed issues said they are a TOTTALLY new device to them, so I am guessing hardware is dead/dying, or still misconfigured - gotta love DSL - what I wouldn’t do for a OC-192 in office :)

Anywhoo so for anyone searching for me on IM tomorrow, I imagine I will be in-and-out, unless I get out to the office late, in which case I will be on part of the morning, but most of the day will be in and out as we test, and explore.

Trying to decide what to do with my afternoon/evening - no one is ever on AIM anymore, or maybe I’m not lol - one of the two, but gonna find something I’d imagine… if anyone has any ideas feel free to contribute.
