Laptop reborn!

My sister came to me a week or so ago with her freshly dead laptop - she had drop’d it on accident, and the fall made it so it wouldn’t charge anymore (I can hear liz having a flashback right now) - the laptop itself was waaaay out of warranty, it was my first laptop, about 2-3 years old - but I had given it to her for a Gradumacation present - well its lived a LONG time, laptop served me well, and had been serving her well, but since it was out of warranty, and getting older we feared no parts could be found, and I knew HP would simply say "A pavilion…. what?!"

Enter the trusty eBay - we found a replacement jack for the back (as half fell out when I opened the laptop up) so tonight, me and my dad tore the entire laptop apart, had the motherboard in our hands, and solder’d the old head off (what was left) and put the fresh one from eBay on - the patient made it through surgery fine, and is recovering in the kitchen doing a battery diagnostic/calibration. Very cool indeed.

In other news, tonight I went to deposit checks at the ATM, it was too late to walk in, so of course ATM is my friend, well my business card wouldn’t work, so I thought maybe the entire system was down, I checked my personal card, worked like a charm. Called WAMU when I got home - and by jove I love these guys, them and T-Mobile, my hero’s thru and thru - they explained there (like MANY other places recently) had been a security breach this morning, they weren’t sure how far in someone got, but to be sure everything was safe they disabled all cards - not accounts - so I can still access/deposit/etc. my funds at the bank during normal hours (you know the ones where other humans are alive and awake) - but for now my card was offline. Glad to know they are smart enough to play it safe.

Anywhoo ramblings become me, 82F outside, going to call it a night, meetings tommorow, thursday, and I think one brewing for Friday. Night.
