Safe, Secure, Fast.
Folks always hit me up for help in securing their computer “How do I keep from getting my information stolen?!” - well Phishing is bad, can’t get around that, but when browsing around today I came across OpenDNS:
Now if you have a website, you may be thinking “Oh, but the company I use gave me DNS servers, they are NSx.superhost.com!” - it’s not that sort of DNS for hosting sites, it’s how your home computer translates where websites are, normally your ISP provides these, but in this case OpenDNS does the look up for you.
First off if you try to goto a site that’s a known “bad site” it’ll put up a notice that prevents you from going to the site, if you mis-type a domain, in some cases it can put in the proper URL for you vs. having to re-type - both features great protection, and with your help (if you get hit with a site that is phishing for your information) you can report it and help stop that site from getting visited.
Granted I am still giving this a test drive for a few days, but thus far, some responses are more snappy as compared to my oversold ISP DNS servers, so a lot of sites load very fast as my browser queries are responded to a lot faster, the nicest thing of all, it’s 100% free.
If your worried about security, and want a extra layer, give it a try - what have you got to loose?
