weekend….. good.

A day without work? Almost, had 2 tiny client things to wrap up after my lunch date with Rosie, sat, ate, talked for 2hrs at Sonic - the two of us talk like crazy whenever we get a chance to hang out, so it was nice to catch up and talk life.

hafaa is done (for the most part) [linkage] I think scott and I were emailing back and forth threw till 1ish my time, which if my CA->TN translation works, thats 4am his time? He finally experienced one of my nights on this project :) It was a up and down road, we were shooting for Wednesday to launch, but as usual something comes up with he or I, content isn’t done to put into place, but on top of that I had a packed week already, put off as many people as I could that I knew would be cool with a small ‘disappearing’ act from me. But now this week is packed - so hopefully the ocasional sleep in there somewhere.

All in all while it was a crazy, busy, insane week, it was still a good one. I enjoyed myself - definately though still a lot to do, a lot to get done, but hopefully a tad less crazy all the time as I may start hangin with Rosie on a weekly basis to hang out, and to lend her a computer at the office since she is computerless.

Anywhoo, that’s my update, going to probably slide the laptop up here where this keyboard is on my linux machine, and play some World of Warcraft, have to kill some more boars or something lol.

If anyone needs me - email is always open if you don’t see me on IM, and for those who have my cell - weekends and nights are free ;) Latah!

Servers, Gadgets, Life

New server coming online later this week to replace a older one which has been doing only named services as a NS1 - soon it’ll become a shared NS1 for several hosting companies - but will also hopefully lead towards a DNS system that’s sync’d better than the current system, and have all clients add NS1-NS4 on their domains for better fail-over as name servers have been getting pounded lately - but after that is ironed out, server 3 will move to the original server 1 - and server 3 will under-go the same clean-up, and be re-popualted in weeks to follow with new accounts (yup, new accounts, tell a friend) ;) and that’s just the FH end of things, I plan to follow up with a secondary server for Thrust Networks (seeing as 3 of the 4 right now are filled with FH related sites) #5 will be a personal server most likely though, move all friend sites (aka people I give lotsa bandwidth/stuff for free + zagnu.com).

Gadget wise, I have been looking at the Treo650 pretty seriously lately, be nice to be down to 1 PDA/Phone instead of pda, phone, etc. and have one less thing to stuff into my pockets, a all in one unit would be nice - a friend kicked down $200 to me for some cosulting I did with him & just help I have given him in general and as he handed me the check said "Go get that Treo!" - but money is a minor justifcation in my mind - granted from Palm it’s $699 + tax - but from my favorite store [ Newegg Linkage ] it is cheaper and is the same thing - unlocked GSM model so I can use it on T-Mobile, and get full support on it from Palm if anything is hinky with it - so $616.31 - $200 = $416.31 Left to get - not too far off, plus I can re-coup some of that Selling my Tungsten T3, and Moto V551 (Unlocked GSM) - ah good times.

Life wise, got a call from a old friend tonight who I haven’t seen or heard from in a while, I have had her on the list of people to call, but with my schedule lately if I am not working, I am sleeping - and sleep is rare, but she caught me sitting down to watch a movie, so I much rather talk to her - we caught up a bit, since she isn’t a online junkie like myself, I filled her in on friends who I keep up with via IM and latest happenings with them - but were gonna get together this week, I’m buying drinks (Cherry Limeade for her, I am thinking a Grape Slush - ah Sonic) - but it’ll be nice to hang out in person and catch up a bit.

Lastly, going to church tomorrow, might be playing Piano, so I sat down for an hour at the iBook/M-Audio tonight and enjoyed it - but tomorrow should be interesting :) but on top of all that, I think Monday I am going to hit the gym, lot of stress right now with various projects and deadlines, so I definately need to work a bit of the craziness out - so if anyone tries to give me a ring this week MWF I’ll be hitting the gym, Lord willing :)

Well folks, thats the latest, new server specials coming soon - so if you know anyone who needs hosting, definately let me know as I’ll forward you the various specials once I have them finalized and in the billing system and on the sites. Good times. Now must shower, and then sleep, or sleep then shower - so many options. Night.

I was in the news…

I was in a article [link] - My business card was one of the 100,000 Visa’s linked - my bank reissued me a new card, and has given like a 30 day window if I see any bad transactions to have it removed… I knew I should of bought that mini-cooper on credit… ah what a fun world.

Well thats all I got… reading news done, food, then sleep.

Meeting 1, to 2, to 4, (you get the idea)

Well got a check tonight, which is nice, but the greatest thing to happen in the meetings today was a phone call… DAN IS ALIVE! :)

Anywhoo - only been home about an hour, meeting went long, but good - got a lot done, and things setup to where next week I can help finish the client up - but in the mean time, pushing through on AudioA stuff, will definately keep me busy for a week or so same with some various CMC security issues - lots of security junk lately, FTP/SSH Attempts, etc. Crazy times.

I need grub… Hungry, thinkin’ waffles…. mmmm… waffles. Then its off to bed since more misc. meetings today, and I can’t miss SciFi Friday - if I do, I’d hafta get the episodes later :) Anywho… night.

Laptop reborn!

My sister came to me a week or so ago with her freshly dead laptop - she had drop’d it on accident, and the fall made it so it wouldn’t charge anymore (I can hear liz having a flashback right now) - the laptop itself was waaaay out of warranty, it was my first laptop, about 2-3 years old - but I had given it to her for a Gradumacation present - well its lived a LONG time, laptop served me well, and had been serving her well, but since it was out of warranty, and getting older we feared no parts could be found, and I knew HP would simply say "A pavilion…. what?!"

Enter the trusty eBay - we found a replacement jack for the back (as half fell out when I opened the laptop up) so tonight, me and my dad tore the entire laptop apart, had the motherboard in our hands, and solder’d the old head off (what was left) and put the fresh one from eBay on - the patient made it through surgery fine, and is recovering in the kitchen doing a battery diagnostic/calibration. Very cool indeed.

In other news, tonight I went to deposit checks at the ATM, it was too late to walk in, so of course ATM is my friend, well my business card wouldn’t work, so I thought maybe the entire system was down, I checked my personal card, worked like a charm. Called WAMU when I got home - and by jove I love these guys, them and T-Mobile, my hero’s thru and thru - they explained there (like MANY other places recently) had been a security breach this morning, they weren’t sure how far in someone got, but to be sure everything was safe they disabled all cards - not accounts - so I can still access/deposit/etc. my funds at the bank during normal hours (you know the ones where other humans are alive and awake) - but for now my card was offline. Glad to know they are smart enough to play it safe.

Anywhoo ramblings become me, 82F outside, going to call it a night, meetings tommorow, thursday, and I think one brewing for Friday. Night.

9 to 5? or 5 to 9? or was it 1am-5am?

5am, can’t sleep, pain from my head to my neck/shoulders - so I am laying here on my bed, pondering work - lately it seems to be a mad house, lots of little things, a few select big things, and another pile of small things waiting in the wings ;)

Meetings this week, line-ups for more programming / consulting gigs, which is nice, some extra cash helps pay off business expenses living on the business credit card - be happy to have it cleared off, but it’s times like this when things get busy busy busy that I have mixed feelings about self employment - don’t get me wrong, I enjoy it - but there are times I’d love to be working for a boss, set hours, overtime, a team working with me, and the steady paycheck - I remember the days - made some good money back working for other people - highschool, web firm.

Don’t get me wrong, private consulting can be very profitable, challenging, fun, exciting, etc. etc. - but once and a while lately, I dont think I’d mind someone offering me 40-60k a year… but when I think about it, I kind of dread a few things like droping clients with another company/person who may not always be in their best inrests, customers I have a relationship with who trust me and what I know how to do - would hate to send them off to find other people to do the work I do for them currently - It’s the thing I have noticed about myself lately - I’m a tad posessive and protective - guess the ol Camp Cousiler nickname fits, "The Bear" :)

But its 5:30am, the rooster next door is chiming the aproaching sun, and thus I imagine my time to sleep for a bit, maybe 4-5 hours, then back to it - I seriously need to get the sites in gear, have a few ideas in mind for promotion, need to get the ball rolling, I have some upcoming expenses on my mind, more on that later - but needless to say, I need to bring the monthly revenues up a bit. Night Folks.
