A night of change….. (and more dots…)

Well in about an hour I am going to start taking down CMCentral.com - no, were not closing up shop, but unvieling some new things, for one, our new look & feel - which leads into other resources slowly coming back online (aka TheChart) and things like Chat (once I get my new linux server online @ the office).

The changes will be going through the entire site, and some articles will be “broke” for about an hour as I re-generate all the old content to the new template format, so I am re-directing all traffic to a “Please Excuse Our Mess” note - but all in all it’s looking good, we worked out a lot of the issues we had hoped to have done on last Friday, but it escaped my mind “Thanksgiving Weekend!” so thankfully we all got in on it this week, and tonight is the night.

One thing I MAY add is a link site wide to the forums, I have been toying with the idea, this way users could tie in a constant track at top of their status (logged in/logged out) and always see if they have any new Private Messages - but it’s quite a bit of SQL so maybe after things level out with the new design.

As for the more ….. dots - random fun, as I am excited that tomorrow my ReplayTV shows up, so I get to set it up and get it recording some shows, and according to a few Mac/PC sites I can use their software to network into it, and download the raw MPEG files, so I can re-format and take my TV shows on my Treo, or Tungsten T3.

Lastly, if anyone is feeling wild and wanting to get me a Christmas Present, feel free to get me any XXL shirt from ThinkGeek.com, iMac, iPod Video, Cannon Digital Rebel (or similar DSLR camera), Plasma/LCD TV, iTunes Gift Certs, B&N Gift Certs (need more reading), etc. I need to make a real list, but as usual there’s nothing I can think of off hand. Feel free to be creative.

Gotta love the end of the year! w00t!

Why is it at the end of the year there’s always a big push on the web? For the last 5 years come Nov/Dec it’s crazy for me, I just got a job offer tonight of which I really have to pray on, because it kind of goes against everything I have been working towards, and yet it’d provide me with a tad more money in the bank. Don’t get me wrong, I love FlockHosting/Thrust Networks - awesome running my own company, but it also puts me on call 24/7 - which really doesn’t always work.

I have been pondering relationships, friends, family, “other” aside from that of business, and if I take this job, my evenings would be shot, but I’d have a steady paycheck, possibly benefits, not entirely sure still kind of up in the air, but it would be nice to have a steady income, but at the same time I have enjoyed evenings off lately, just got done watching The Pacifer and I wasn’t doing it while working - me, bed, movie. Good stuff.

So needless to say, a lot to consider right now - just one of those times I just knew what God had planned, ah the joys of waiting, so many things in my life, that’s where I am, at “wait” - just wish sometimes a few of the wait’s would go to “Go get em!” but I suppose his time table is better than my own.

Anywhoo - rambling aside, busy busy tonight, CMC has my attention for an hour or two, just still not happy with the advertising setup, so much being switched around, and its not looking right, and Sean’s not too hot on the current fonts, so it’s an hour on css to adjust some elements, then it’s in photo shop to re-work the reviews page (yay - no really, yay… okay you got me, not yay) LoL - but this project has simplified some of CMC, a lot of things are running a lot cleaner, we have been using hacked/re-hacked Robin HTML for over 2 years I think now, fresh look, compliant code (not that Robin’s wasnt to begin with, just a lot has happened to it over the years) so a fresh start is good.

Lastly, it’s cold! I wish the server rack was here producing heat :) and katy to answer your comment on this - it’s a server rack, you get servers which slide into it, I’ll take a picture of one in the morning, more or less a fancy computer holder - had a lot of em in my history in IT, and I have had simple whiteboxes, this is large enough to house both - so a nice mix of boxen will be going in.

Anywhoo - off to CSS land, maybe a hint of hot coco….. mmmm coco.

Survived… (mostly)

Well I made it up the grapevine, and back down - and ate turkey - needless to say a semi-long day - came home, slept, then worked on CMC for a bit, and did a little more planning for tonight’s server migration.

A good day though, long, but good - got a 9am txt from Rosie wishing me a happy turkey day, talked to her later in the day a little bit before I left, about 1ish I got a knock at the door, it was the Poon’s (Dan and Val) on the way back from Val’s parent’s house - came by to give me a hug and wish me a happy turkey day, was very cool.

But I ventured out at about 1:35pm to get on 58->99->Exit 210 (or as the sign was marked (2 0) - the one fell off apparently, but it was wild, never drove up that steep of a grade before, was gunning it in 4th, even went down to 3rd for a bit to get speed up a bit more so I wasn’t causing too much lag - though some folks were speeding by at 70-80mph, craziness.

Got there safe and sound, even got a call from Rosie checkin in on me - so it was a good day, lots of fun, good food, funny jokes, and it wasn’t so bad being stuck at the “Kids” table - even though I was the youngest being 25, we had a lot of fun at our table, the other table while having the younger kids at it, it was not as fun as ours, as we had more cool crazy people, and the power of the word “Kangaroo” lol (longer story).

Anywhoo, good times, and thus for the 3rd time tonight, I am going to try crashin out again. Slept once, but I think I just had too much on my brain, and writing always helps, just have one more place to write (aka private journal) and then it’s to bed.

Happy Turkey Day

Well in about 30 I am going to attempt driving up for the feast, first long drive like this on my own, yet it sounds like it’s the same round-trip time as going to Delano, so should be kinda mellow, just have to watch my foot, CHiPy’s are out in force today they say.

Anywhoo - Happy Turkey Day To All!

Wave 2? or 3?

For some reason my flu has evolved, can’t seem to stay away from the bathroom, and I have a monster headache. I am hoping a good night’s rest will clear things up - time will tell, just have no desire to drive up the grapevine in the AM for turkey to feel horrible for the trip and not be able to eat :( time will tell.

Last Tool (okay a Toy) for the Year

Just purchased a ReplayTV - tired of missing shows, and plus since this household only watches about 5 shows total, for the price it was well worth it, I spent a total of $15.63 (aka Shipping/Tax). The unit is refurbished, but I have never met a piece of refurb’d hardware I didn’t like :)

Good times.

Jobs, Jobs, and More Jobs.

This week is thick. Just picked up another gig doing some work on web based uploads, had some mini-research under my belt from a previous project that never took flight in the end, but after I sent in the quotes on the software costs + my time, they signed off on it - so another thing to the pile for this week it seems - just trying to iron out the situation with servers, one tonight got rebooted, when it came back online, had 512mb more ram, and a second drive - mis-read the instructions a little, but heck, that box is running GOOD now :)

Putting some finishing touches on 2 emails about the new servers/services coming soon, and as my Buddy Kynan said tonight “2 more servers?!” indeed, just growing still - but on that same note, I may be getting a 9/5 job soon, still kind of up in the air, but it could lead to a steady paycheck, which could also lead to steady employee’s for my own business, but it’d be working essientally a local Datacenter, not that I would move my hardware over, but might be nice to have for yet another place for offsite backups.

Pray for Rosie, she has the dreaded flu everyone has had lately, that I am on the last leg of, actually had a desire for food tonight for the first time, had Rice Bowl - twas tasty, but this thing is short, but packs a bunch and then some, poor Rosie’s nose was sore she wanted it just to be gone :( So keep her lifted up in your prayers, she has a busy week as she is working Friday at B&N’s Cafe, so a lot of busy shoppers are going to want a LOT of coffee!

Lastly, odd question to anyone who may know - why is it then when I work out the first thing I ever see when I start to loose weight, is weight loss not in my gut (where I’d like to see it disappear from) but from my neck! I have a darn sexy lookin neck right now, and it’s getting sexier by the moment - but I’d go for gut or butt loss as well - crazy body of mine, definately working out Friday night, and if Rosie is feeling better and we have time amougst friends/family who plan to be visiting in town for the holidays, to the gym! :)

Anywhoo, back to the server fun, must build a better playlist, this one just isn’t cutting it.
