Well I have been trying to re-arrange my desk, I took the monitor from my Linux box, and figured “I’ll do extended desktop on my PC!” so I have this really cool looking desk layout right now, iMac, 2 17inch LCD’s 1 keyboard, however the CATCH to my master plan? The MSI X300SE does NOT support extended monitors, it has 2 plugins for standard VGA and DVI - but - its only 1 feed. So right now I have 2 monitors, showing EXACTLY THE SAME THING. LoL
In other news, a good night tonight, got to join my sis, her hubby and my dad for X3, a excellent follow-up to X2 I thought, never was a HUGE Marvel comic fan, but the Xmen movies are well done I think at least from a entertainment standpoint, who’s to say if that really fits the actual comic book storyline at all, but twas good entertainment for me.
Later today the iBook goes to it’s new home, my cousin sarah - it has been a good laptop for me, still under warranty for another year, so she’s getting a pretty sweet “all in the family” deal, as I am throwing in iWork, iLife, and Tiger, as well as my BT keyboard - so tomorrow she brings her PC over, we yank the drive, then we mount it on the iBook and copy the files she needs and she goes home happy
Other plans include Lunch/Dinner - and quite very possibly X3 again - as it is new, and I am the only one to of seen it, so “Oh Darn” I’ll have to watch it again (2 buckets of popcorn this time, and I am going to pre-buy skittles from the store!) but it should be a restful day.
I am sure there is something else I can ramble on about, but I think I am going to call it a night for sitting in front of a computer - going to make a quick snack (think’n Mac and Cheese) and then try the sleep thing again - shooting for more than 3 1/2 hours … time will tell Night folks.
I am sitting here with meds slowly kicking in to knock down wisdom teeth pain, and I have been researching printers, and I think I found a winner, the R2400 from Epson was highly suggested, however it’s nearly $900 - and while I “could” afford it if I really really really needed to, I kept looking today at CompUSA and found the i9900 from Canon, big print sizes (up to 13×19 full bleed (aka borderless prints) and its $499, but has a $100 rebate, so $399 all things said and done.
Needless to say I am of course though still looking around, trying to find the pro’s and con’s people may know about the printer, if you have any information about this printer either good or bad, please post a comment but it’d be nice for doing prints, and working on some various goodies for a crazy project I have in mind for a friend (not gonna name them here, wouldn’t want them to know my secret evil plans! muwhaha!)
… come to an end. Well come Friday I am making a formal note to the entire CMCentral.com community, I am stepping down from my role as technical personality “mrcbrown” - it has been quite a ride, but after talking with the ownership, and hashing out some things, it is time for me to honestly move onto other things which are in the forefront of my life right now - aka having a life
So one chapter coming to an end, and another opening up same day I got the final agreement from Sean - I was talking with a client I do spot work for, and they asked me on the spot for my services here in town mangaging servers, for a monthly wage - so God has a plan, its good stuff - but its time for lunch, I need food, then I have to reply to a few things email wise around here, and then I am gonna probably crash for a few hours, 4h of sleep is simply not enough, and my body is sad.
As from this post at nearly 5am, its obvious my brain has no concept of time once again my sleep schedule is upside down and backwards, though I am eating good again (just had a sandwich, baked dorito’s, and rich chocolately ovaltine!) but what if this is quite simply my norm? I mean at night I tend to think clearer, I get more done - then again it could just be my wisdom teeth coming in and hurting to high heaven (from the line of my chin -> neck -> shoulder - ow) - but here I am another early AM workin, tweakin things, and coverting FlockHosting’s Thunderbird account -> Mac’s Mail.app
Got some more good things done today, worked on Titus a bit (server I am testing out) - runs pretty smooth, if Titus survives the week, he’ll be upgraded some (started him small) and some clients will be moved from current servers -> titus to help balance out load, and work towards my master plan, but first things first have to setup backups, get Fantastico installed, and lock down the packages & features of the server, but all in all it’s coming along nicely, after Titus goes live, I do plan to add at least 1 more server, to move things around, and also lead up to new packages, new “High End” larger packages, as well as a slight increase to all current pacakges - same on the TN end, plus I have to find out something to do with the design, but I am lacking in tools right now on the iMac for HTML editing, no good simple HTML WYSIWYG editor, everyone says “Get Dreamweaver!!!!!!” - Uh, no - might invest in the Adobe Suite with GoLive before that, but who knows - so much money being used lately.
On the subject of money - who wants a server? I have been toying around with configurations for a server for in-town, pricing the software, for about $1000 even I can build a sizeable server for the office, the thought is moving off all “friend” and “hookup” accounts to this, so blogs, hobby sites, etc. but I’d need some folks to chip in - so not begging, not demanding, just “might be nice” and the only yearly fee would be cPanel, but hey just bought a copy of that for the office today for one of the current servers, but its a 4.5mbps line, it has been stable, mixed issues at high-load, but that’s rare - if you host with me as a “friend of chuck” account or “chuck is crazy” account, you have the hookups, and you could have even more hookups with a server set aside for our playing only
Anywhoo - going to go take some pain meds (or the generic title “non-asprin pain relief”) and then lay down again and see if I can get some sleep - big day Wednesday, may be helping my neighbor return his HP Media Center PC to CompUSA and get him a iMac in exchange (another convert) - oh what a life - maybe this is normal! Who knows, but my plan is show off the “mac20″ as jake has coined the phrase, then off to jake’s new casa de jake, then if my brain/body allows off to jake’s church for some wild youth p&w - followed up with holy pizza (aka free pizza provided by the church) so how can one go wrong? So without further typing, night!
Don’t tell Jake, I am on the buying path again… I am just looking at printing options, while I have a great LaserJet 1000 which has served me well for years now (like 3 going on 4) it’s not Mac compatible, I do have a HP PCS1200 at the office, which I “could” bring home, I know it’s mac friendly, just not if it’s Intel Mac friendly - plus it’s no where near the resolution I want for photo printing I have been hoping for - I have been suggested some of the high-end Epson inkjet printers, but honestly inkjet of any caliber kind of scares me - so I am honestly looking at Color Laser - not as expensive as it was a few years ago, plus it’d let me have some color printing ability in some of the things I am working on for business related things.
So anyone have any ideas on printers? Anything you’d suggest for printing photos? Plus the ability to do quality black prints for letters/billing?
