Last night er this morning I woke up to the usual fun that is me sleeping - when I went to bed it was still a tad warm, so I was using only a sheet as a cover, but I recall waking up cold and throwing on my quilt to warm me up, so the layers would be
quilt
sheet
me
bed
Simple right? Well when I woke up, the sheet and quilt were flipped - not like strewn over each other, but perfectly flipped. Maybe I was abducted…. hrmm… I think I need more sleep.
Probably not ALL night (though what is 3:40am?) anywhoo - snap shot of my progress on the CMS intergration:
Lookin Good! Maybe a Friday Release!
Well after a day of sleep (well day and a half) I am nearly back up to snuff - at 6am on Saturday I was at my sister’s in-law’s house for the great move 4.0, 06′! (we so need t-shirts made) but we got her packed up, moved out in under 4 hours, not too shabby for what took 2 days previously with a smaller truck - but it was one swoop in, and out to their new diggs - but I was poop’d - lot going on behind the scenes right now, and just remembered my final payment on my camera is due 8/1 (just made out the check, and put it in the envelope) and have it on the pile to go out tomorrow so it’s postmarked in time - still some other standing bills put on business cards - but my goal, desire, plan is to be 100% debit free in a few months, get everything back on track - not too far in the hole, but some bussiness tests were floated on a card, so I have some service fees which I need to move from credit cards -> business account as these tests have gone well.
Anywhoo - tonight I think since I am still a little chipper, I am going to get back to work on FH, I have the offical package setup of doom all lined up, the layout is half in a CMS (minor tweaks need to happen) then its fill in new content/packages, adjust the billing system template, and whammo - all new fancy look and feel, new package sizes, new functionality, and then after a quick FH filter on the customer list, I make a email list to all current FH clients on some of the new changes, things to expect soon, and more - really want to give FH another push here, TN I am considering options, maybe once things have picked up again with FH, TN will get a nice re-vamp look wise, and re-vamp the hosting offerings for it - but some increased sales revnues would indeed be nice to have!
There was something else, don’t remember what it is, but it’ll come to me - take care all! Night (if your online, feel free to IM, I’ll be around for a while).
Folks always hit me up for help in securing their computer “How do I keep from getting my information stolen?!” - well Phishing is bad, can’t get around that, but when browsing around today I came across OpenDNS:

Now if you have a website, you may be thinking “Oh, but the company I use gave me DNS servers, they are NSx.superhost.com!” - it’s not that sort of DNS for hosting sites, it’s how your home computer translates where websites are, normally your ISP provides these, but in this case OpenDNS does the look up for you.
First off if you try to goto a site that’s a known “bad site” it’ll put up a notice that prevents you from going to the site, if you mis-type a domain, in some cases it can put in the proper URL for you vs. having to re-type - both features great protection, and with your help (if you get hit with a site that is phishing for your information) you can report it and help stop that site from getting visited.
Granted I am still giving this a test drive for a few days, but thus far, some responses are more snappy as compared to my oversold ISP DNS servers, so a lot of sites load very fast as my browser queries are responded to a lot faster, the nicest thing of all, it’s 100% free.
If your worried about security, and want a extra layer, give it a try - what have you got to loose?
Just in case you didn’t know Friday is Sysadmin Day! (http://www.thinkgeek.com/interests/sysadmin/) (no pressure… well maybe a little…)
Well I am noticing my neck is loosing weight again, why is it when I am active and getting exercise that the first part of me that gets skinny isn’t my stomach, but my neck? Does that make any sense to anyone else? But the recent semi-continued activity, from home construction, to the semi-regular rides - it was bound to happen, less time in the chair looking into this glowing piece of plastic, sometimes I actually desire a job that isn’t computers that leaves me the same level of freedoms I have come to know and love from consulting and such.
But things are going well, getting some good sleep, but I think I definately need more, just can’t seem to get caught up, and I have no desire to eat, welcome to summer! This happens every year, but I hope I can do a bit more in the realm of the usual seasonal weight loss, but time shall tell, but hopefully Thursday get out to the lake in the AM and get a nice ride in, maybe Friday too, just keep up my energy up for Saturday.
In other news, some new sign-ups for hosting, some pre-paid in a year so over $100 in a single step, and on Friday or so I get me $300 from k-man as a thanks for the help in setting up their new server #2 - and some minor phone consults with a company he is working with right now, so a nice thank you to say the least, but it’ll come in handy to help some of the new costs on the test servers I am messing with, so far so good - and if I decide to upgrade the billing system to v5.0 it’ll come in handy too.
Considering that all I have left on my mind is ultra random personal life goodies, time to hit the private journal, which means firing up the Mac, still need a better name for it than “iMac” - anyone have any name ideas? Anywhoo - journal a bit, then back to sleep. Night folks.
For anyone living in most parts of California, you’ll be enjoying the usual summer warmth - tonight it caused a power blip - which in turn left my home connection to the net inactive for about 2 hours (power came back, but waited for a while to be sure it was stable) .
I waited to turn the iMac back on and came to the conclusion that I have been keeping the iMac on too much - especially in really HOT conditions, which isn’t great - but 2 hours ago it managed all server connections - so I have changed that - it’s all back to Linux which is now running VNC so I can VNC in and restore my session and manage all the SSH over VNC and in turn, swap back and forth to SSH via bfp, grace, and “livingroom” (it was a very uncreative computer name) - but now it’s simply a VNC away, and it works like a charm, tabbed SSH via Gnome, and all my fancy MRTG graphs etc. it looks good.
A interesting weekend, and Monday - we got my sister moved to her in-laws garage & they are staying there for the week as they wait for the key to their new house - and my sister is doing the last bits of clean-up on their apartment - then its Saturday at 6am for the final move from Garage -> New House - so it’s very cool, and some minor research into rental trucks, their AAA discount got them .44 a mile vs. the .99 they spent on the last truck, so very cool - so that should be fun, just hope I get enough rest between now and then - still have sore muscles.
Do keep Rosie in your prayers, she had a job interview for a position at a lawyers office, and she really wants (and needs) a change of pace, if I had a higher volume of telephone calls, I’d hire her in a heart beat, but 99.9% of my day to day is handled via email - but who knows how it’ll turn out, I know she’d love it, and I think it’d be good for her both in learning and for her school schedule - but keep her lifted up, hopefully they’ll give her a call back!
I made $35 cold hard cash today, by putting forth a suggestion on a web problem - I so need a tip jar
LOL it paid for ice cream for the floats tonight (thanks for hang’n jake) a nice cool down from today’s 109F - still have $27 left, that’s lunch for me and 2 others at Kosmo’s - I really need to offer to re-do/host their website - and make them online ordering (I’d use it)
but so far so good this week, still some sore muscles, reminds me I’m alive - or something like that - but I do want to get back out to ming once my knees stop hurting, be nice to ride in the early morning hours.
Well it’s 4am, and I am still up, which seems to be the norm lately with the heat, but I think I am going to stay up since the power kicked out the rent’s alarm clock, so don’t want people late for work - but who knows my pillow may beckon soon. Hopefully the power lasts, as the projected high is 111F - man I love cali
Night folks.
