Long two days, arms, legs, brain all sore - and no signs of stopping as tomorrow we move my lil sis from her apartment to her husband’s parents house (apartment lease up, new house ready next weekend) - soooo tomorrow the fun continues, then I am going to take a LONG hot bath, and wake up Monday.

So I have been busy busy busy lately, it’s crazy but mildly fun (odd I know) I had been amping down this evening and on the way home from the store (out of milk) I see a traffic cone at the last second covered with a black towl/rag, just as I then hear the “thud” of it hitting the truck’s front bumper - if it had been my Neon, my airbags my of went off - I so can’t wait for school to be back in lol - nothing personal towards students - but a few of you need hobbies. lol!
So now a tad on a adrenaline for a bit, I figured I’d make a note here, and maybe the ol private journal too, just a crazy amp down, I was kind of tempted to go back and grab the cone and hide it so they can’t do it again, but they probably will - but I hafta get to sleep as morning is going to come early, gonna go for a ride in the AM, followed by a morning of wrapping up some database audits for some clients and get software upgrades posted for them as well - but the morning leads up to a potentially fun lunch - just da boys Jake, Me, Dan, Adam, Matt - the biggest rag-tag group of people you’ll ever see should be a nice lunch, and then I’ll probably walk up to my office, crank up the AC, and pass out on the couch for an hour!
After this week I really need some downtime - I may actually be traveling up to Washington state with my dad, we shall see, and probably do a slow trip back, but the travel could be just what I need, get out of the thick of it all, and step back from things around here for a while, nice bit of reflection, plus get to see my dad’s family up there, and meet some newer additions to the family that I have never met - so who knows! Could be a hoot - and this guy I call my brother wants me to head over to Grover Beach for a bit, so who knows, if all this office stuff pans out I may run 3 servers to him, and keep my 3 here (fun fun) but anywhoo - rambling = tired = sleep. So I am going to go give it a try and see if my pillow can do it’s job. Night folks.
Well for the first weekend in some time, I slept, then slept, then slept some more. Maybe a little too much - but it was nice, as Rosie said I am probably catching up on Years of lost sleep - which if truly possible, I got about 16 hours of rest (yesterday alone) - only things I really did Saturday was wake up early, go riding with Jake and Rosie @ Ming, then Carrows for Breakfast, followed up with a quick stop at Walmart for Rosie, then a nap followed with a shower, then to downtown to check the servers & my mail (send money, no one else is) - call in a Cob salad for Rosie for lunch, then come home with the world’s worst headache, which led to laying down again, and only waking up for Jake’s buzz, then back to sleep.
Twas a nice weekend, I have a pile of work of course now waiting for Monday, but the rest was much needed, and taken advantage of and then some - so Monday will have me at the office throughout the day, going to be working down there for a few reasons one of which is to beat the heat a bit, as it’s set to be a warm one, but also to work on some gameplan’s for the office, meeting up with Rosie for some Typing Tutor fun - and then maybe if it’s cooled down some, a nice evening of photo fun at the park, might invite Mr. McNutt along with his Digital Rebel.
Anywhoo, 1am beckons, and I am feeling a touch tired, so going to see if I can crash out - still 88F right now - so might be a tuff sale on sleep, but going to at least try. Night folks - and Xanga users, if you make it this far, I do realize my blog is posting blank on Xanga, gonna see if I can fix that after I cross a few projects on my list.
If you have read this blog for any length of time, or have known me for a few years - you know that tonight was a hide the phone, logout of IM, ignore email, and veg night. Tonight marked the return of Stargate SG1/Atlantis on Sci-Fi - and what a return, must say for a 10th season when you think they are out of tricks up their sleeves, it was a great start of a new direction on SG1 - really took the whole Ori business into gear whereas last season you kinda were simply dragged through a hodgepodge of story lines, while fun, this season (if it can keep up the momentum) should blow season 10 away.
Atlantis was similar last season, some cool action, but a slow down, I think both shows were in limbo as to what was going to happen to both, I believe ratings were lower, and coming to a 10th season, no one knew if SG1 would continue - but Atlantis as well took no mellow path, great battle scenes, great drama tying together Atlantis and SG1 together as there are crossovers planned for this season - so once again, my friday nights are sealed 
And with a second ReplayTV coming to the house - one will be devoted to it so if I have a wild friday night planed (rare, but does happen) I can go out and enjoy the next day during chores.
But what a week all around, got my Bike back today, and it shifts! A lot smoother now, looks like they replaced the back gear assembly with new parts, much smoother - might take it in every 6 months or so for a tune-up so it stays in alignment and have tires replaced as these heavy duty “thorn resistant” tubes really rock! And affordable too (all of $6) - so I have Rosie’s tire changed out all inflated and doing well, I have the mini-air compressor I got the other night in the truck, packing up my backup with the usual supplies - and doing some laundry as I realized with hot weather - I am running out of clothes quicker (specially with days I did moving, 3 shirt days!) - but for now I will say goodnight, I am going to go and find the hair cutting kit, and trim the ol beard & fro. Night folks.
So I am sitting here trying to amp down from crazy developments in what I thought was a quick and dirty exploit on a customer’s site - thats 2 in under a week, and I have heard of other hits around the web, it’s getting bad - so I turned on “Walk the Line” for some background noise (good movie) and worked on a network map I have been doodling for a few days - it represents the expansion of FlockHosting primarily as Thrust Networks has been a slow grow lately, still plenty of clients to support itself, but FlockHosting has a higher demand, and sales up 5% over last year, it’s already a great year, with plenty more of the year to go.
The changes are more peering, more networks, more options for customers, including (going into testing end of the month) Windows based hosting! So expansion, upgrades, and new servers - going from the current 4 (retired a backup server recently) up to 10 - yes that’s a jump of 6 servers, a big outlay of cash, but this isn’t a plan to deploy say tomorrow - but my goal for year’s end - core of the network including 4 name servers are linux servers across 4 major networks, so no matter what 1 of 4 name servers will resolve domains - 7 servers for clients including Linux and Windows, and more as time goes on - and always expanding backup servers.
Why the sudden jump? Working on the balance as always, I find I get into friend time far too easily, and tend to neglect business end of things, or family time, so I have been sketching on this - and as always really just throwing this all up in prayer as I really desire more than my own crazy path/ideas on this, God’s guidance and wisdom about the next leg of my business, life, path, etc. I still very much want to take my road trip, which does mean putting most road trip funds towards a car - then re-saving for the trip, so probably a fall/winter trip - but should be fun too.
I am starting to get tired though, and morning will come early as always, really looking forward to Friday, get my bicycle back, get Rosie’s replacement tube for her front tire, and have a nice ride at Ming on Saturday early AM - I really need it - be a nice way to unwind and relax a bit after this up and down week of server “eh”-ness I do as always appreciate everyone’s prayers - I know my blog tends to be rather life based lately, but gotta unwind sometimes, and while I may not have someone physically here to hear me rant, this is better than nothing to vent a bit and let it out - better out than in - so thanks for reading, thanks for praying, more soon I’m sure. Well another site got exploited this morning / last night (depending on how you sleep) - they came in through the message board it seems, and instead of hurting anything (at least that I have seen) - they planted a mass mail app and were blasting out spam, not cool, but it happens - so I am prepping a new email newsletter, and going to focus tonight on the FH end of things for a good chunk of the evening to let folks know to update, or remove, as some simply think scripts are safe if they don’t use them.
In this case, the customer had a older message board, which has TONS of posts, and a conversion was never a quick thing, so I understood the delays, but I am going to lend a hand and copy things here to the home server and work on it here, I can keep it well hidden from the outside world, do the conversion to SMF (a popular choice lately) and then upload the upgraded version, with hopefully only a little tweaking needed by him - but probably a bit of work to do - I miss the days when the web was simple, no worries of comment/post spam, no people hacking your board to help “educate” you in the upkeep of your site - life happens, you can’t always spend 36 hours a day on the PC, heck I don’t even do that - sometimes I do wish I could hire a batch of these kids, pay them a set rate, have them proof sites, and that way I could provide customers with a vulnerability report monthly - I think that’d help curb the tide.
Anywhoo - I am going to go work on this more, have a order to fill, and some things to journal in my private journal - I am waiting for Friday so much, my bike will be back from the shop, and I can go ride at ming again on Saturday morning, and Friday I am going to pickup Rosie’s tube for her front tire as well, so lots of fun ahead, but my parents do leave tomorrow for San Diego for my dad’s birthday (tomorrow 55 years young!) - I do get the house free for a day at least, maybe more if they’re visiting my aunt, so we shall see - but fun fun fun ahead in the days to come.
Well today I ventured out with my brother in law again to help move another load of stuff from their apartment to the storage of his parents garage, they are moving into a new house, but due to crazy owners of their apartment building - they are getting out early while the getting’s good - so I am lending my tired, yet semi-useful back, and truck driving skills to help them move some - and a truck with out AC in 104F weather, frickin awesome.
I enjoy the heat, and the cold, heck I enjoy weather in general but today was an alright day, really trying at one point, with a former client who prooves time and time again he doesn’t understand the internet yet stays messin with it - I mean, I guess that’s dedication, but he sadly always seems to be going backwards vs. forwards! For a while there he had it right on, then he found his own personal backsliding banana and went for a ride.
In other news, posting has been few and far between here - been hitting the private journal a bit more on the personal life stuff, things I am sorting out/praying on, etc. but fun personal stuff coming up - I have a dinner tomorrow (today) at 6pm with Jake, Dan and Matt! Denny’s here we come - then the following day with Mr. Scott McNutt at Kosmos downtown, should be fun, but all in all, busy but good - squeezing in some personal time and trying to get some yet again “final of final” CMC stuff done, the chart has been sitting for months, with Greg leaving it kind of just sat there, and I had moved on to other projects, but now I am finishing it up, and truly trying to end my commitment with CMC for a while, reason? To break the classic habits by both sides (me and them) that have formed over the last few years, plus I am busy with other client projects, so this out of the way, free and clear.
Anywhoo - guess I’ll be going, must hit publish and hit the hay, hopefully I’ll be back on track sleep wise, and wakin up at 7 again vs. 10am like I did today Night folks (and flood mongers)
