Sender Verify is Back!

Well after a short stint off recently, I have re-enabled the possibly cumbersome, highly annoying, yet so wonderfully useful Sender Verify function in Exim - I have a love/hate relationship with this system, while it does a wonderful job of blocking spoofed email addresses, the downside is not all servers respond to the check - so thus, mail get’s bounced.

I am going to work on tomorrow on my test box deploying a whitelist system, so folks having issues can open a ticket, give me a domain, and I can whitelist it - should help out some, but others it could be problematic on, but I have some logs being monitored to see if anything pokes its dirty head in there.

Quite a night, quite a morning, got the ball rolling on the link, looks good, even had it tested today by one guy, so far so good - picked up a server migration project, as well as $150 tune up fee, also need to get some sleep tonight and call out tomorrow to the photographer about her website and let her know first and foremost, it was me who secured her domain name for her, so lots to do, and hopefully some sleep to do it with here shortly, need to snap a pic of my mug for the 365 project, however I need to also get up the 2 missing days (tiny detail) thinking of posting the daily shots weekly, but that’d kind of defeat the purpose,  but one thing I know from the recent shots, I need a haircut and a shave.

Anywhoo - have lunch sometime this week I hope with Mr. Dan, possibly another day with Mr. Adam, who knows, if Jake likes food, maybe even go with him :) but some fun, some projects, its all good, for now its night night time. Night folks.

3 Shows, a “Link”, and a Toaster.

While the topic of this post leaves really only 1 easy to understand term “3 Shows” - all 3 things do have meaning (promise!) - but first off the three shows, tonight I wanted to catch all 3 shows hitting the air tonight:

  • The 4400
  • The Dead Zone
  • Robot Chicken: Star Wars

I enjoyed all three, the 4400 was nice to have back, and see things start to shape up, and more questions enter in, the dead zone was nice, but sad to see some cast members start the season off by leaving, not going to say much more than that as I know some folks were waiting for that, and for them to know Johnny dies… omw! I slipped up, next thing you know I’ll say the rev. is now seeing visi… okay.. I’ll stop - Robot Chicken was just priceless, if you didn’t catch it, try to, well worth the 30m.

The “Link” is looking good, in the morning my beta testers hit the code running, some known bugs - of which I’ll be ironing out is a login check, but really its not a bug as much as its not something I tasked for in the running of this code, but should be easy to fix up, like 3 lines of code - but it does its function very nicely, I am going to try some other tweaks and see if the link can be tuned up a bit more, but really, it works just peachy thus far - testers in the AM will shed light on more features/less features needed ;)

As for the Toaster, its a codename in the testing of Link to categorize things up, and it is just one of my random words I throw out like Toast, it works well.

This week should be mildly busy, got a call Sunday night that I missed from Dan about getting together to hang / chat business / eat cake (okay, I added that last one, but I like cake!) - but I also have a meeting to setup with a local Photographer about getting her website up and running, secured the domain for her at the wedding I went to, and so now its just a matter of getting things together, and making her a pretty site, which I may just hand off to Dan if he likes, and do the hosting for it, who knows!

Anywhoo - 3am, and I got a LOT done, some things I didn’t that I hoped I would, but hopefully over the next 2 weeks things line up, and I can get out and do a Summer Heat photo shoot :) nothing like taking photos in 105F weather ;) have a good week folks!

“The Project”

While I am mildly tight-lip’d about a project that is in the works this one has me excited, for a while I have been looking for a pre-made solution to attack the problem at hand, basically the issue is as such:

Application A, needs to link to Application B - so that Application B’s resources/management of functionality (permissions, demographic data, functions) can be either accessed/modified by Application A - having a favorite for both of these applications (each has it’s own task) -  I wanted to create a bridge or at least an exchange loop for information to flow both ways so content from each system could be accessed from each platform - and so far, I think I have a winning solution.

I fired up one of my test domains tonight, installed both pieces of software, and began the process - so of it is clear point-to-point database calls, one application can interact with the other, however the CORE of it all will be a bridge (so to speak) to link the two applications together, and so far, I have the basic code in my head, just not in a file as of yet, but not a HUGE deal, just means I need some quality time with various API docs to find the right hooks in the application to make it all happen - but I’ll pickup on it again Monday.

Slept a good chunk of the day, going to crash out here in a bit, just watched the movie Pulse, interesting concept for a film, some scary bits, but all in all it kept my attention, and I am sure after the film the market for red duct tape went up at least 25% ;)

Time to wrap it all up, may take a bath before I crash out, or I may just pass out and deal with the quick shower in the AM, so I say Good Night, and have a wonderful sunday.

Mac Fresh Install

In windows if ever I rarely re-installed the OS - never had a reason to, wasn’t a big application tester of things like Smileys, Every IM app released, or add-on’s to IE/IM - in other words to hip kids back when I worked @ a few community websites, I was a stick in the mud. Hello Mud. :)

Well when I picked up the iMac way back when, I of course fiddled, I installed dev tools, things I really don’t need installed now since I have a dev server back in-house, and the slew of softwares I installed and tested - since gone, there are a lot of leftovers that could use some cleaning, and a fresh setup to 10.4.9 before the all-magical  re-installs of my standard apps - but maybe this weekend while tearing apart my room some more (need a bigger place) :)

A busy day Friday, laid sod - rather I more transported it really, wheel barrow and tarp full of sod again and again, my sister now has a green covered backyard @ her home - pretty cool, and the sprinklers are keeping it nice and wet in our 105F weather! but a fun day followed up with catching Silver Surfer later that afternoon, pretty decent flick, heard several comic book guru’s complaining about a few things, but not being a Marvel guy, it was just a good movie to me.

Anywhoo - working on a server for a client (yay!) re-compiling Apache/PHP right now since he’s a bit behind (only hires me when things are broke and behind) - so doing my usual tune up, so far so good - but have a good weekend people, if your in California, try to stay cool (or Cory in AZ with 109 today… yowza!). Night.

Farewell ReplayTV… I loved you.

A year or so ago I picked up a ReplayTV unit as they were having a sale, it worked great, but with a HD TV now I was desiring the joys of a Digital Recording on HD stations, well today in running the numbers, by ditching the $13/m fee of the Replay and bulking Digital Cable + HighSpeed - I could get a lower rate. So I signed up! plus the lady was nice and kicked in 6 months lower cost, discounted the DVR, gave me HD channels & HD component cables for free. Pretty slick.

I as a test setup a few of the commonly recorded shows and watched Scrubs and currently Studio60 in HD, such a nice quality of picture! Over all though, really - very happy - tomorrow I am going to have them light up one of the packages I had asked for, but didn’t get added, it adds the Encore networks on, which has some fun movies - plus tomorrow I get to call and cancel the ReplayTV service, going to of course dissect/hack up the ReplayTV hardware, and maybe get my Brothers and mine and set them up to both snag older Analog TV for fun :) (I’m a nerd, what can I say?)

Tomorrow also  brings the laying of SOD, should be fun, hopefully only 3-4 hours of time laying it, but we have 7 people working, should go pretty smooth I hope, leave at 6:30am, so going to probably crash out around mid-night, and get a good 6hrs in under my belt, it seems to be my sweet spot when it comes to rest, so going to give it a go - also need to call a photographer tomorrow about a website, I meant to call her nearly a month ago, but just all the server bleh coming up - priorities stability over sales sadly.

I wish I could say “things are going good” but lot on my mind lately, a few things I am trying to sort out - but I can safely say - I am alive - and going into a Friday, I am prepared to unwind a bit, so I’ll say - have a good evening/good Friday tomorrow, take care - and see you on the flip side.

A Love - Hate Relationship…

with sleep… my job over the years has had me working odd hours, from the short day, to the long day (72+ hours) - to the short day  (25 minutes) :) and lately it is no different, last week with some big server changes/tweaks to jump on, I worked many a late night, and into a early morning - but as usual, the ol body starts to get worn out, and demands sleep (silly body).

So about 2 nights ago it started, bed earlier and earlier, waking early, and now I’m all messed up, I got 8hrs the other night, and of course while the ol body wanted it, it didn’t know what to do with it! LOL - Silly really, but such is my existence  anymore.

In other news, things seem to be leveling out in some areas, and becoming unbalanced in others - ah the constant battle, but Friday I am laying sod in my sister’s backyard, we got the sprinklers going a few weeks ago, and now it’s onto the next stage, laying sod so its all nice and green :) plus we’ll probably get ready to bury the last line of pipe nearest to the pipes feeding the system, just need to get the wires hooked up to the new timer that controls the backyard.

It’s always fun knowing a little bit of everything, I suppose it makes me useful :) but I wish I could just get some of these ideas in my head on paper for the projects I’m working on, my brain since sleep is just scrambled - I think I am going to run through things and make sure the shop so to speak is in order, then I am going to zonk out again, see if I can get my brain leveled out and sleep sorted. So happy Thursday folks.

Lunch?

So far so good, got a good night’s rest, little over 6 hours, twas nice, so today thus far its been a fun day, now that hard part…. lunch. :) Part of me is considering ChiliDogs …. but another part is thinking Burger King.

I really need to go shopping and buy some “meals” not just “things” - though the Corn Flakes this past week were delightful. :)
