The week to come…

It is going to be a wild one, this past week was a bit of a whirlwind, and this next week, sure to be more of the same… so I am turning in early (well for me anyway) been toying with a front-end to a backup system, so far it seem’s simple enough…. just want to implement some security and a web based front-end - long story.

Anywhoo …. thats really it, just a quick blip on the radar.. keep me in your prayers, lots on the horizon, more on that later.

The To-Do

Welcome to Friday! Hurray! Very happy that the weekend is nearly upon me, hoping some checks come in tomorrow and I can do the happy dance on my way to the bank, pretty happy though on how this rough week has all panned out - got the new server up and running, even accomplished the task of quite possibly making Mailcleaner work under OpenVZ - which took the help of another product from Swsoft, namely Parallels, was able to migrate ‘mostly’ things over, some blips with the SNMP bit, but this should help make folks have several redundant nodes for the anti-spam service.

So Friday should be almost restful, possibly more of a Saturday day off - but tonight’s break was lovely, got to hang out with my ol pal, ol chum, ol chohart in crime, mr. poon (and Val made us cookies!), it was a nice visit, and in our classic fashion, talking up a storm about everything until midnight, just barely got home! But a awesome visit, got to chat it up, talk movies, talk work, talk life, a wonderful evening.

Picked up the “Bourne Files” from Costco, basically Bourne Identity and Supremacy in a single pack for $15! Not too shabby, so going to lean back and enjoy that a little, also started drafting the notes for the full run of the “friends” server, so far so good, also looking at a media component for Churches, Fan Sites, Photographers, sort of like the Amazon S3 storage services at some level, but a chunk of space on the server, with a sizeable amount of bandwidth, talking in the realm of say 100GB of transfer, which REALLY should  be more than enough for any size site, but it’ll have sizes, just something to allow churches to still afford the $5 a month hosting, but not have their sermons take up all their space & all their bandwidth.

I am sure there is something I am missing, granting it’s SysAdmin day, I guess really I should get the day off…. right? :) But thats never the case usually ;) Pray for a easy day folks! But anywhoo, I am going to sign-off, and go find a snack (pudding?) and sit here and enjoy everyone’s favorite memory missing action hero (at least mine) :) Have a Good One Folks!

Friends Server!

Well instead of running out a buying an iPod, or a headset, what did I do? You guessed it, I ran out and got a server. There was a promotion on bandwidth that came across my desk, and I couldn’t pass it up, so I put in an order, and now I am just waiting to get the thing online, which means some folks who are on “friend” style accounts will be moved to a new server, also has room for backups, which is nice, and will actually make backups quicker and easier to get to - so very excited, in offering backups to other clients I cover a good chunk of the monthly bill, but there is more to cover, about $150 a month, which ain’t  bad for server and connection.

Going to go pickup a headset tomorrow, as much as I’d like to get the Plantronics 665, the issue is not only cost, but sadly I can’t find a steady flow of positive reviews, granted some I read reference they are using the headset with a Bluetooth 1.2 phone which could accommodate for the static/drops they were having, and the Dash is a Bluetooth 2.0 - but I want to get something sooner than later, and as much as I’d love to wait for Newegg, I think I am going to go snag the same headset again, it is comfy, and about the same price range as the on sale ones around town.

I finished up the Photography client, she’s busy uploading photos to her gallery, going to experiment and make her some drafts of a logo, this way she’ll have something hi-res for print/clothing should she need it, and it’ll make her site look even better (already looks good as is) - but I may have another job doing some design, which is nice, granted not my usual type of work, but it’ll be cool to do, really customizing a template, but some other things as we roll into August will help bring in some more money monthly, plus I want to focus on getting the TN page revived, and possibly another hosting venue, making Thrust Network the mama homepage with core service offerings and such, and a Hosting Front to offer basic hosting for things not just “A website” so offer “Blog Hosting” or “Gallery Hosting” type of setups.

Sysadmin day is coming up  on the 27th, and while some know about it, they have asked me what I want lol - and I feel like a kid at Christmas, never really thought about it, and I appreciate the thought - at this  point really, donations for an iPod, WoW Gift Card, A Book, or a DVD, I suppose I could freshen up the Amazon/ThinkGeek wishlists, but honestly - I am just happy that folks thought of me, some I of course hinted at it (aka the chatroom) and others knew about it, and asked me beforehand so very cool - but if ya want to send some love, PayPal tips are welcome, gift cards to food, whatever really - but the ultimate would be a iPod 80gb (no pressure) :)

Anywhoo - thats things in a nutshell, a few other things I may get to discuss in the coming weeks, some deals I am trying to work out, also need to snag a post office box too, as the office building I use as a maildrop is getting completely re-modeled, which means 3 months without it, but the plans look good for afterwards and the owner made me an office - very fancy indeed… wonder if I get wood floors, always wanted wood floors…. ah good times. Thanks for stopping by folks, more later this week I’m sure.

iPod gets a iHeadStone

Well trying to decide what to do about the iPod, currently it is slated to get a iHeadStone and a nice plot in the back yard… there will be a small ceremony, and cake - lol - but honestly I am looking at the 80gb replacement, just means I need to save up a bit, trying to not use cards as much for a while, let the budget catch-up.

I did find a replacement headset, the Plantronics Discovery 665 - looks nice, fair reviews, and the form factor is similar to what I like, plus the kit comes with a car charger, so even better - but time will tell, just want to get it sorted out and purchased here soon, hate not having a headset while in the car, the wired one that came with it really is “Bleh” it was meant to be a hybrid headphones + headset, fit was wrong though, they made one side of the headphones short, and I have a big head. :)

Anywhoo, so a good start to the week, Monday was good, lot of people who had a rough weekend, some had a rough monday due to the events on the weekend, got to talk with a lot of folks and hear about things, give advice, etc. and thus here I am, 4:30 in the morning, getting ready to pass out. Man I love this time of the day, quiet, simple, easy.

The plan for Tuesday is one of working around the house for real, try to clear off the couch some more, and get some things thrown out, some things sorted and filed, and trash somethings which are broken (old chairs) etc. and make some more livable space in this room.

So anywhoo - sorry to scare anyone who thought my last post was about me ending it all, just was a sad blip yesterday loosing two devices… who knows maybe you are all secretly plotting to get me an 80gb iPod for sysadmin day ;) One can dream… ah how I can dream. Take care all.

Farewell… dear friends.

Well today two of my devices gave up the ghost.. a fond farewell to the following:

  1. Jarba Bluetooth Headset (no longer charges)
  2. HP+iPod 40gb (Dead)

So I am going to order a new headset from Newegg, but not sure about the iPod, as much as I’d like to have it, dunno if I can afford to get the 80gb one and keep to my budget *sigh* ah to be responsible. lol.

Anywho - going to go help cook dinner now… more later.

A real saturday… ah lovely.

So today has been the first “real” non-work, non-all-sleep, saturday, and it has been delightful, just got done watching Bridge to Terabithia - I think I may go get the book, a wonderful movie, and heck, I’ll admit it, I even cried - just a good story.

What else today, well I got asked if I wanted a house, namely the one I am in, my parents are looking to find someplace new, and thus have asked if I want to keep this place - I am honestly not sure, I have grown up in this house, but lately, I am not even sure if Bakersfield is where I will stay, I know there is a world of opportunities even just a few miles away, and while comfort and familiarity are a plus, sometimes I think throwing myself into some place new, even if it is only an apartment, might be something I need in life, but something to pray about for sure.

The rest of today’s plan is well, relax, clean a bit and see if I can get my sofa cleared off of all the boxes it has stacked on it, and to maybe do some laundry as well - have a good weekend folks.
