So a week done, some crazy stuff for a Friday, got a fraudulent order, they charged someone else’s card over $120 for hosting from me, first thing that was odd, the IP - a server in California - not a ISP, not a proxy, just a server with 1 website - second bit was the Colorado based phone number that didn’t work, and third, I found the person’s address to match - so I called their # in the white pages and left a message, sad folks steal information like that - but Today I got another order, still need to square it away - going to try and do so before I pass out tonight.
Got my short from Old Navy, perfect fit, oh-so-comfy, only thing they changed on this line of shorts (Painter Shorts) is the mysterious 3rd pocket, it’s super small. It made me cry - but then I realized how nice and comfy they are, ah to have good shorts again, hopefully these will last another year and a half like the last pair
Health wise, getting decent sleep, granted the UPS last night claims it detected like 3 outages, so I got in this morning and shut off the annoying alert buzz when it blinks off - I need to do some more checking on it this week probably do that Wednesday or so, do the full test on it and the power-loss test as well, its old, may be ready to be run down and brought back up to calibrate it, I think it’s been a year since it’s last calibration - but tonight, it won’t wake me every hour with 2 beeps.
Affiliate program is coming to FH & TN - the latest upgrade on the billing system allows me to make some cool rules, like client must be active 30 days before payout, so I can make some rules to ensure folks don’t just have friends sign-up to get some free hosting/cash out of me, as that’s the last thing I’d want to happen.
Work - been getting a decent amount of it here lately, not a major problem to keep up, just trying to line up more regular work so the monthly budget looks happier and get a step closer to an apartment, or rent for the house if my parents move out again, ah the joys of parents - but I am hoping with a new server client coming online this month towards the end (when I finish code) and some more coding projects here and there, I hope to get the budget up just enough to start savings for first and last month’s rent and find me a nice place to call my own, so I can move my house worth of stuff to my own house vs piled in my room.
Anywhoo - thats the run down I think, had fun with the McNutt’s and the Sherman at our 2nd weekly dinner @ Denny’s - maybe if we do it again this next week we’ll mix it up and try some place new, who knows - but this next time it’s my turn to pick up the bill, so cheap? So ol Friday is nearly upon us, however to me, it’s “SHORTS DAY!!!” what is shorts day you ask? Well it’s the day my new shorts come in from Old Navy - the online shop was having a sale on my favorite ON cut of jeans that cover your knees (so many shorts are too short) so was very happy to pick up 2 pairs, $15/per - but a deal compared to the $25 usually paid for, so that + new shirts from Woot.com - very happy indeed.
Budget hit a strange note today, I had over $200 extra bucks in the budget, was hyped, got the first big billing last night with the new processor, some minor glitches I expected - but it went pretty smooth - so I got excited this morning as I did my morning bank check, and I find myself nearly $200 over (in pending transactions) so I reviewed what was going on and it seems some car stuff I ordered for my dad (got him some PayPal $$ as I can get it quicker than him transferring it…) however in the end it took too long, so I just paid for it on my debit card, well it seems they billed me twice - once for the amount @ checkout, then a second time for the adjusted amount as 2 items were out of stock… so as it stands I have 2 350+ transactions sitting in a pending mode. Fu-un!
Relocated the parents PC and got them a new wireless card for it, as the old USB dongle was given to help build a PC for a customer, but never got replaced - so I snagged one from Officemax Wednesday and today got it all setup in it’s new room all wirelessly, even gave them a ol Woot purchase my MX 5000 kit to replace the old gross keyboard and mouse, worked out really well - which got me looking again at buying a MacPro, and part of me is starting to get tired of Mac hardware, while the iMac is cheaper I dislike the lack of drive replacement ease/expandability, and its all in one. Ugh.
Anywhoo - not sure what I am working on this evening, I pretty much have the core of the conversion done for RM so if all goes well, I can wrap up that tomorrow with mainly some template tweaks, but the core of the paid job looks to be done, all meta data (picture / ratings) got migrated in so needless to say its looking good, just need to fine tune category templates to lend a hand, and then figure out some sort of voodoo for the main page…. hrmm. So - another day down this week, drawing close to Turkey Day, needing to purchase AppleCare for the MBP soon, budget getting a little pick me up from all the extra work (ptl!) just now of course I get myself run down a bit, still feeling tired all day, plus stomach has been killing me, so swapping out a few food meals with protein shakes (aka Atkins Shakes) - as odd as it may seem, it helps to lighten the load on my ol gut.
Anywhoo - not a lot to say, heading to bed here shortly, going to try and get a solid night’s rest, not sure that’s possible, but hey I can try can’t I? Also very excited about tomorrow night, first full billing night on the new billing system (giggle) should be good! The joys of work, excited, happy, but tired - hopefully that’ll end soon. Just got done with my Monday night TV (of course on Tuesday Morning) - but some good TV, though my stomach was killing me most of the watching, and my head is spinning even now as I write this so I’ll be brief - I think I may be sick and or quite simply exhausted. Been a long couple of weeks, some high stress, some just craziness in general - but it’s all mellowing down, well some of it anyway can’t all be perfect all the time, life wouldn’t be very interesting then would it?
Got some code done, but feeling bad started late this afternoon, so my brain has been worthless to say the least, well unless it’s replaying bits of movies in my mind as I see bits on TV, sometimes I really feel like Chuck Bartowski from NBC’s Chuck - I can recall big bursts of data movies, how-to, etc. not always a willed bit, but especially with various medias, I can replay movies in my head, know the lyrics to songs, and recall parts of books, however its really strong when I feel like crap - so it’s been a fun night, just not productive!
Anywhoo - I am going to wander over to my bed, lay down and cover up with a large pile of quilts and blankets and see if I wake up feeling better. Night all.
So for starters, my bank finally fixed up the missing feature I enjoyed Pending Transactions - it was always nice to see what was flowing in, specially if I ordered something and they over-billed, nice to know and start the ball rolling on a refund. Well WAMU recently re-vamped their website (which sucks even more with mobile browsing) - and they ditched the feature. I complained. LOL and low and behold, they finished more of their upgrade, and as they promised from my complaining “it’s a feature being configured.” so today I logged in and saw:
So there it is, still not like it used to be, but it’s something (no “Expected Clearing” date - but I’m hopeful) - but all in all a nice thing to have back.
Busy week ahead, and of course, I am already tired, worked on some chatroom stuff, working to bring support chat to customers via IRC, so getting that setup, the ground work to EE is continuing, not as fast as I’d like, but none the less, I hope to have a good demo skeleton by end of Monday and off to the owner, if all goes as planned, I hope to get him deployed within the next 15 days (if not sooner), and in-between the code blocks, I’ll be working on RM some, getting its final bits configured, I am ahead on it, and I am also waiting on a call, apparently the site I laid out last week and everyone loved, was only half loved by its owners lol - so waiting for word back on that.
Anywhoo - lots on my brain, lots going on behind the scenes, trying to sort some things out like always, and it seems I may be setup again soon with someone, who knows - time will tell lol. Have a Great Week folks, hopefully I’ll get a good night’s rest here soon, and get a good start on my Monday.
So it’s true, what goes around, comes around. I lost a customer to another hosting company, no real reason given, they just requested a cancel, said a few happy words about my services, but then left, well then the company goofed, and I gained one of their customers lol. Funny how life works, but client is all setup and happy now, apparently I have features hostX doesn’t! Very nice.
Today was Test Turkey Day - the dry run for my dad before the official bird for turkey day, and already, I am trying to fight the desire to take a nap lol - but it was a good lunch - tasty, some good mashed potatoes, some good dressing, definitely going to make some homemade biscuits this year - have to dig out my old recipe.
Code tonight is the plan, just unwind the evening working on textmate writing up some spicy code to get ready for a meeting at some point this next week with a client, it should be polished up by Monday enough for a demo display - then its onto phase two which wraps up a lot of the code for production, and Monday I “officially” start on the other project, which is really just code cleanup so code code code!
Had a fun dinner last night, got the call from Jake and joined him, Scott and his sister Sarah @ Denny’s for some grub and hanging out - it was nice, a fun evening, even a crazy waitress hitting on Jake (ooo la la) - but it was a fun evening, I’d really like to get a regular night a month or every other week or something for hanging out with friends and a meal.
Anywhoo - back to it, going to do some upgrades on software, also looking at Java based IRC clients for some customer support in a “Live” setting, so a full afternoon/evening setup, so now I must work, and fight the effects of turkey on the human body. Zzzzz.
So the morning has produced a continuation of a job from the other day, so probably wrap up a second hour there on Monday, $150 for two hours isn’t too shabby, not a big bag of money - so there’s that - still not entirely sure what I am going to do about other situations, I let it stew in my brain last night, and I know I want to be easy on ‘half’ of the issue, I know how it is to be at the end of your rope with things, but I also know that’s no excuse to take advantage of someone, so definitely need to talk out that, but the second half of the issue really just needs to be slapped, no getting around that.
I have a slew of projects going into the weekend, EE, RM, HP, TB - 2 of those are personal - but the other two are paid jobs, and one keeps expanding a little here and there, I may need to throw another $200 in to it’s costs, but I hope to get some work on it before this evening and really have a working prototype of displaying both views of the core app, because once that’s done the main haul of the project left is to finish up the bits, and make a workable administration interface for them to manage things - so some work to do there, and the migration for the other was a big “wanna!!!” for me, it posed a fun challenge of migrating data into Wordpress that didn’t really have any desire to fit in, and required some fancy foot-work to import things like oh I don’t know, ratings into Wordpress, but so far in the base testing, it works - but some more mucking around to do, then its a fresh WP install, clean import, and we go from there!
My cell has really just plain started to suck. I dunno, the Dash has some nice features, and allows me to do some fun things, but more and more it just can’t keep up the pace, it’s Mobile IE keeps trying to be helpful and “Web Friendly”ize things, which yes - is helpful for about 1 out of 5 sites, but with more sites using Ajax and such, it’s just lacking and then some, not to mention to scroll without a touch screen and just the silly little d-pad, far to long to get somewhere. I tried to use it to check my bank’s hours last night as I was held up at the pharmacy, and it can’t even half way render WAMU.com bleh - I’d give the iPhone a try, but between my lack of money, and the hooplah of being SOL on the unit if I moved it to T-Mobile (Cingular/AT&T and I don’t get along) - but in unlocking it, I get 0 warranty. Bleh. So who knows, but I need something, and I want it like my Treo to have SSH, WM pushes Remote Desktop not console SSH, it’s a nice phone the Dash, but honestly as time has gone on, I find myself wanting to go get a Treo680.
Anywhoo - that’s my brain this morning, a busy day ahead, thinking of going and snagging a sandwich from Ceasers so I don’t have to run out for lunch later since I don’t seem to ever have all elements to making something to eat lol - but I may just settle for Subway just over the tracks, so time will tell. If anyone wants to get me a iPhone to see how it works for me, please feel free I won’t mind a bit, but if anyone has any other Smartphone suggestions for good app expandability, good wireless connectivity (ie Bluetooth), lemme know.
