Wow, this week has flown by things have started to shape up around, might have a big client add here in the next month or so, working to get some details together for a package, so excited there - still slow on the hosting side, but no cancelations, so I am hopeful that things will slowly pick up, I do need to work on TN’s website, but I am trying to make my coding projects a major priority at the moment, which are going well.
Having a TV in my room again has been nice, between watching recorded shows, but also a Windows rig to take advantage of Amazon’s Unbox service, it’s lovely - plays great over Media Center allowing quick easy access from the couch as I code on the laptop, pretty clear on the TV too, at first I worried it’d be bad, but so far I’ve rented 2 flicks Evan Almighty (good flick) and Reign Over Me (twas okay) - but it was nice to have quick easy access to download, and on top of it, with Amazon’s Unbox client on Windows it leaves itself running so I can start it downloading while away from the house and it’s waiting for me, pretty snazzy.
I do laugh though talking about movies everyone said Evan Almighty was “blah” - however I enjoyed it, I think it wasn’t the same as Bruce, but it worked for me, that and I think you have to be used to Steve Carell humor, and watch for subtile things blended in, and I always like how they take a common misconception about Christianity/God and make it clearer to understand, like Lauren Graham’s chat with God in the restaurant - good stuff.
Anywhoo - time to get back to it, a long morning ahead of coding, and hopefully a moment or two of getting a pile or two of cash from outstanding bills in town and online, so busy busy - sooner or later I’ll get a nap in I’m sure so have a good fake friday!
So the day started like any other day for me. Going to bed at around 9am. sure sure one day it’s going to be rough working a standard 9-5 but my thought is how many folks jump for the option to work the hours of 11pm -> 8am! But the early morning turned out very nice, found out a few things, like Jack in the Box’s grilled chicken sourdough club, delightful. Also that Bill from Jabra was kind enough to send me this note:
Thank you for providing your mailing address. I am having two complimentary BT5010 ear hooks sent to you. Please allow about a week for delivery.
So looks like my BT5010 will be with me a while longer, and with two hooks, it’ll probably die with me (unless it stops working in the next 40 years, in which case, it’ll be missed.) - then the other thing, code went wonderfully well, got the last bits nearly done, just making some data input areas for the customer to input things for his project that way it’s in his hands, and I can continue to code the bits around it as he continues to add-data.
This week looks crazy as always, had a glitch between TN and FH’s billing systems, the credit card processing didn’t like the fact that two invoices had the same # so TN invoices bumped up to a range the two shouldn’t conflict in for a while #10000 range - and things are happy again, but TN is on the docket for this week too - going to get things finished up migrating old customers from dusty Quickbooks -> WHMCS which will mean no more silly mailed out invoices, all emailed out, with the exception of one customer who uses a “billing center” and I have no way to email in invoices, that I know of, so I am going to check on that too and see if I can’t get everyone.
All in all this should be a wild week, I hope to finish EE entirely code wise and get it ready to go, which is a little delayed all around some on my part, some on the customer’s part, but I think I can even have the new ideas in as well, so a few coding days ahead, going to try and lay off it in the evenings so my mind can amp down, but that is also on the idea that I’ll get normal sleep so time will tell.
Lots more I could say, but I’ll probably say it later tonight, for now though, that’s all folks!
Well this time the headset still works, but the ear loop that allows it to actually fit on your ear and stay there, broke. It never was a perfect fit, the plastic part broke in two and now I must hold it to my ear, thus making it useless while driving. Ugh. No replacement loops listed anywhere on Jabra’s website, so I once their website stabilizes I am going to submit a email and see if they can send me some or I can order some from somewhere, but I may use this as an excuse to get a new headset that goes in-ear as it’s much nice for hearing folks.
Anywhoo, long day - time to pack up and head to the McNutt’s for some pizza and movie. Hooray!
I have been looking for a way to eliminate some of the paper clutter I have, as a business owner I get a ton of paper work, but throw in things like 5 page credit card processing statements, bank statements a mile long with every… little… transaction… the folders get full, and full fast. So while I was reading my usual Mac feeds I came across the latest promo for mac software and my favorite MacUpdate, they are running a sweet deal on their site MUPromo.com - it started as 7 apps, with 3 which could be unlocked based on sales (Similar to MacHeist and other recent mega discount super sales) and now it’s up to 8 total apps for $50 for over $500 of software, and at the current pace and 4 days to go, seems like all 10 will be offered in my estimation.
But anywhoo… I looked at the apps, and one I had not really seen before caught my eye, Yep. The software is a document organizer with a built in function to scan, and having my fancy Brother MFC with networked in scanner it seemed like a good deal, plus I gained a few apps to help me out, but a few more to help customers out with if folks utilize things like Forklift for FTP and such, so some good stuff! Thus I have made tomorrow (Friday) Yep day, I am going to try and scan at least 5 things of paper work in an hour, and just keep it rolling as I code, then I can shred, and toss ancient docs.
Quite a week though, and it’s getting nice and cool as the rain comes in, but things are leveling out, and hopefully it’ll all continue to get better and better! But do keep my dad in your prayers, he goes in for the CT scan of his head tomorrow, so do keep him lifted up - but my prayer is Friday is good, good relaxin, good eats, good friends. So have a blessed Friday! Night!
So back in 1994 I started at this thing called “High School” and there was a creepy teacher - there’s other weight I could probably add to the argument to really show how creepy he was, but let’s just keep it simple and call him “creepy” - well apparently more than 9 years after high school, the entire town now knows how creepy he is thanks to this situation.
Crazy stuff, while this was a sad thing to have happen, at some level it kind of made me happy that he is finally getting into some trouble, of course we’ll see if it sticks.
So things are getting there, been a rough start to December, but it can only get better from here right? Today I should be able to one way or another tie up the loose ends with the budget for now, came up with a few stop gaps just in case, but I am hopeful that there will be a pile of checks in the box today, either way my plan should get things taken care of pretty easily - but if everything comes in this month as planned, there will be a nice surplus, and I’m not even to billing day yet - so here’s to hoping for a good december, and I can hopefully get ahead a little and be ahead for Jan.
In other news, FH newsletter going out this morning, I want to do some homepage makeover to better highlight hosting specials and such - but first things first, I need to wrap up the programming project, finished the RM one a week ago, but still hasn’t gone live, site owner has school, and work I’ll probably just move it over and give him directions on how to deploy it when he’s ready - the EE project is only some fine tuning on the display end, I am going to work on the admin more and leave in some place-holders for the add-on he emailed me about, but not code it until I get confirmation on the payment.
Anywhoo - that’s my random bit, I have been up for a long time now, pondering a nap, but I can’t oversleep as I need to get to the bank to deposit before 6:30 and the UPS Store closes at 6:30pm as well - so I need to get to the post office before 5, to the bank before 6, a busy afternoon/evening to prepare for, so setting 3 alarms, and going to nap for a while. Good Fake Friday to you all!
I should probably be asleep or trying to get to sleep, however just too much on my mind - Money is tight, which seems to be my constant posting these days, just odd, how one day everything is up and up, and then the next, 5 bills hit at once, and whammo. Back to square one. This month though, I am not looking for rescue from my parents, as much as I’d love to have them help out (I know they would) I need to get this under control - I’ve cut back spending galore, heck trying to cut a few more things, but never seems to be enough.
Seems at least to me that I make exceptions for folks, customers I bend the rules for, friends I go above and beyond for, and time and time again it seems, all I get in return is broken promises from some, no respect from others, but then I have those I am thankful for and then some, the friends who’d give me the shirt off their backs if I asked - good friends are truly a thing I need more of anymore, they help me keep my sanity in this rough patch.
But with all that said, I am trying to remain hopeful. I dunno, I keep asking myself the age ol question “Who am I?” and while I have folks telling me that I am the 9-5 IT guy, the server guy, the computer nerd, etc. I keep finding myself asking the question late in all this oddness of things, and so far no reply, but sometimes you just have to wait for that answer to come I suppose.
Keep my dad in your prayers, he goes in Friday for a CT Scan of his head doctor says he has swelling, which is probably his sinuses, he’s always had problems with them, but this is a new guy and so far he’s been jumpy about everything, so we shall see - but also keep me lifted up, I am hoping for the best in all of this, that they’ll be some light at the end of the tunnel that isn’t a train, but again… time will tell. Happy Tuesday folks.
