Centro Thoughts

So I think I got the DUN profile working, going to do some testing at work tomorrow - but all in all, I like having Palm software back, I installed several apps, as it stands only some basic stuff, still getting fresh serials from various companies as some have changed their registration scheme so I needed a fresh copy.

Some things I couldn’t find anymore, and only had them on my Treo650 which I use for games and random stuff, so I beamed it over with IR connection, its a nice fit for a phone, but I am trying to sort what I want to do with headsets, as July 1 laws go into effect for driving + cell phones, but honestly I doubt I’ll utilize it that much on the road, I really don’t even utilize it now that much.

I really find the cell helpful during the day, not 100% needed, but it does make it handy for working on company related stuff, and keeps my personal cell free from the hub-bub of inter-company calls, but tonight at 930pm the VP of the company called, I didn’t answer as my niece is in town, and I only had today to spend with her, but 930pm for a personal computer issue, seems odd, but such is the ways of the last IT guy.

Anywhoo - rambling, tired, a 7yr old takes alot out of ya, granted I didn’t do much, but being tired already helps lol. So I will say goodnight, and have a great Tuesday! (Just realized I didn’t hit publish… far too early to be awake, but the rents are off to DisneyLand with the small blonde child!)

Dear Palm Inc…

A while back I ditched my Treo 650 for the T-Mobile Dash, and I missed your software, your classy chimes, your endless supply of quality apps - then I made the move to the iPhone and even more missed you as I could no longer tether my phone to my MBP for internet access on the go, till today.

Today I found a new friend, I upgraded my work phone to the Palm Centro, brand new, fresh, and delightful - now to get the important things working, like internet access tethered via BT, contacts sync’d in Linux, and of course the must, lots of applications I already own moved over and activated! More later I’m sure!

Sunday Sunday Sunday

The only downside to sleeping thru the heat of the day, is an upside, working thru the cool of the night - right now it’s finally cooling off, below 80F and humidity is lower now too, plus a mild breeze it’s down quite a bit from the 102F it was earlier.

I enjoy the summer time, heat doesn’t bother me so much - it’s the back and forth really, thus why I am happy with work that I have AC in the car finally, so that I can stay close to the same temp in and out, but now I just need to get a greater pull of AC to my office, or the OK on the upcoming quotes which will get me a quarter rack to mount the servers in, and vent the heat up thru the intake vs. into the room, at that point I imagine the AC would do fine.

Tonight I went over my accounts, then suddenly one account spiked with funds, literally between clicks - it’s the 15th (duh!) apparently it skipped my mind that it was billing day, and in a matter of minutes transactions galore from payments pouring in from the billing system, quite a big month, few yearly renewals etc. so got plenty of funds for the rise in the price of gas ;)

Anywhoo - I am going to try to sleep thru the cool of the evening as well, though I lay down then I am wide awake again, so we’ll see what happens, maybe some brainless time with Hulu and Netflix to pass the evening in hopes the morning will come and I’ll be rested! A guy can hope! Happy Father’s day to all the dad’s out there! Night!

Postal Mail is still Good!

Today I got a note from the IRS, it was announcing to me that my stimulus check would be in by 6/20! So this month I get $300 of unexpected, tax-free funds from ol uncle sam - so what to get, what to get… if other outstanding invoices come in too, I’ll have a good chunk of money, but no where near getting myself a Mac Pro - but maybe enough for a camera lens, or a big chunk of a new camera body…. oh so many choices.

Just woke up from a nap with the cat, it’s still nearly 100F, but thankfully the humidity has come down since I laid down for a nap, so it’s liveable, but the big question is… what’s for dinner? Maybe get a nice $300 dinner? :) lol

Blockbuster Gone Wild!

Well I switched to Netflix because of the ever-raising prices of Blockbuster Online - I remember beta testing their service, and once it was live their offered me the same low rates from the test, then $2 more, then $4 more, to where now the service I was once getting is $35 a month. compared to the $20 I was spending … so needless to say to avoid the trip to Blockbuster to exchange rentals, I switched back to Netflix.

Today in a rut for a movie since Cloverfield was on its way, but I wanted to check out Jumper and the usual bargain racks of 2 for $20, or 4 for $20 were out, I decided to poke around, snagged Jumper, and noticed signs everywhere “$2 a day!” which made me finally find a display that explained the changes and I think it was wise for their brick and mortar stores.

The plan as is such, its $2 a day for new releases, granted the whole “END OF LATE FEES” bit was nice, but it meant up to 9 days on average for a turn-around on a customer returning a DVD, I mean why make the trip the next day if you didn’t have to… right? Well that meant continually low stock, upset customers, etc. (unless of course you were the lucky guy/gal who got the movie for 9 days - but this $2 plan changes that, you can keep the film as LONG as you want for $2 per day, but for a movie watcher like me, who is going to simply watch the film this evening, it’s perfect, its no longer $4.95 a rental for 2 days of watching, it’s $2 for a day, and it’s due back by midnight the following day, so perfect, I can return it after Church, no worries.

I can understand Blockbuster in this, you have to remember say 10 years ago the idea of renting movies online, and I am not talking about Netflix sending you a disk, I am saying Amazon Unbox, Hulu, Vongo, iTunes, etc. there are many ways to buy/rent films online now, why even bother leaving your home? Just use your 2Mb+ connection and download a 2GB flick that’s DVD quality, and watch it on your big tv screen - and that’s exactly what most folks do, with Netflix they are at least offering DVD + Online Watching, so quick and easy indeed.

Blockbuster is sadly going to be on it’s way out of the brick and mortar stores I am willing to bet, with Kiosks poping up around town (at least here) to rent new releases, it’s going to make people rent from their less and less, but at least with this option they are giving folks a chance to get the 1 night rental, wham-bam-thank-you-ma’m and only be out $2, even 10 x 1 night rentals would be $20 a month, that’s cheaper than a fair sized plan on Netflix/BlockBuster online AND cheaper than going to the movies for 2, so I hope it works for them - but I fear it may be too little too late.

Anywhoo that’s my rant for the afternoon, I am off to eat my sourpatch kids and watch Jumper, and try not to realize it’s nearly 100F if not going to be more ;)

Lazy Friday!

Just wrapping up the last bits of a very lovely lazy Friday, just a day that did seem to drag, but I made it thru, zoned out watching movies with Dad, and snagging pizza as Mom is out for the weekend @ a baby shower for Harmony, so twas just the guys.

The week has been week-like ;) Got a new customer, lost 2 sadly on the FH side, which happens now and again, especially with the lower end hosting, but I picked up a new customer that covers those lost, amazing how things sometimes appear to balance each other out.

Monday I am getting the new mailservers online, looking forward to offering the enhanced service as part of FH’s offerings, and in time the business class packages on TN - but spent some time today re-working the possiblities of TN’s logo, I really need to get some outside help as I created the original TN logo, so I am a tad close to it, but I may ask Dan and Adam both to take a peek at what I have currently and see if they can bring it up to 2008.

But this weekend brings some fun I hope, I may tag along with Scott and buy myself a Costco card, be nice to goto Costco as needed, especially for Yakitory! But I may also just sleep away the weekend and call it good, but should be a relaxing one (I hope) might even get my AC installed in my bedroom since 100F+ days are coming soon.

Anywhoo - going to go search thru NetFlix instant views, and see what I can find.. sadly missed BSG and Doctor Who - but I’ll catch em on the flip side I’m sure…. just sad BSG (which has been getting good) is going to disappear after this episode till 2009, but Stargate Atlantis is possibly around the corner, so I may live ;) for now I’ll zone out and sleep.
