Well for me anymore a Wild Saturday includes a few things, 1) Progress on organizing my junk, 2) Sleep, 3) Food - or any combo of those options.
Today included the unlock of my 1st Gen iPhone to utilize the Firmware 2.0 but on T-Mobile’s network - being out of contract on T-Mobile, I am actually happy to stay knowing I can now use the line “Well if you won’t fix it, I’ll just leave! boo-hoo!” - and can actually do it AT&T has tried several times now to lure me back to their evil death star alliance, but I have remained strong - the iPhone was really the only option I liked, but I doubt I’d buy a 3G model any time soon, revision 2 in which they get GPS quirks out of the way, battery life sorted, and a 12MP camera, then, maybe then
Currently my first gen is on it’s battery drain, listening to Pandora over WiFi, part of me wanted to leave it on EDGE and see what’d happen, but signal isn’t quality EDGE, so probalby Monday I’ll have that fun at work! But all in all the apps are speedy, the unlock works perfectly, iTunes 7.7 backed up all my goodies, and now I have the big thing to decide MobileMe or Stick with IMAP & SpanningSync for Mac, don’t get me wrong, I love the concept of MobileMe, just $99 a year, not sure it’s going to sit well in my budget for IT, I’d just as soon get Google Apps, or utilize my own IMAP servers.
I am sure there are other things which I could go on and on about, but really it has been a mellow weekend, Church tomorrow should be fun (I hope) followed up with Dinner, but I really want to get a lot more sleep in, I think I am trying to get sick, and the lack of sleep usually leaves me wide open for illness, so sleep is coming up soon here - I am going to fight the urge to skip playing with Apps on the iPhone.
Anywhoo - lots to do in coming weeks, Reunion Website, Photographer’s blog, Wordpress 2.6 upgrades for folks (big kudo’s to WP devs, Gears makes it rockin all the more!) but busy busy - just need to be sure I am rested for it! So I will say goodnight, and wish you all a wonderful Sunday!
Well for those of you like me who have been waiting for the new 2.0 Pwnage to take your Unlocked iPhone to the wonderful world of the App Store, Securit Fixes, and just all around iPhoney Goodness, Pwnage was released earlier and after some playing time here - it’s lovely… but I hit a snag which may be more caused by Apple’s “Restore” feature over that of the tool.
If you notice that you can’t access your restored mail, goto Cydia, install OpenSSH, login in (root/alpine) and run the following:
cd /private/var/mobile/Library
chown mobile.mobile Mail
chmod 700 Mail
The permissions and ownership are messed up, hopefully this will help someone, if it doesn’t just mv or rm the Mail folder, MobileMail.app will re-create the folder properly and you can re-create your accounts.
Only a day left in this week - it seems to of flown by looking back at it now, but honestly it felt long - but I wanted to take some time tonight to unwind a bit, work on some projects - one of which was that of my blog, I wanted to get some time under the hood to update some plugins, scripts, etc. I have a Netflix tool I wrote, but it’s not ready for prime time.
All in all things have been busy in general, closed some deals today - did quite well thankfully, and finally got some payments handled, but all in all definately a few things moving forward that I had hoped would - even though I know that “studies” show things like people who say “I’ll read up on it” never sign-up, but also sometimes folks just need to review the facts, and make an informed choice.
Anywhoo, going to unwind, play with a few new features in Wordpress 2.6, seems pretty smooth and functional, I am enjoy Google Gears, much much quicker interface that’s not streaming AJAX goodies, and it tells me how many words I have typed Off to fun!
Lately it just seems there is not enough time in the day. I get side tracked, phone called, spammed, heck even at work I have different department heads asking for different things, and I have a pile of my own personal business to catch up and get active.
Just seems to be my norm now, I really just want 2 days of sleep, lol a guy can dream can’t he? Still waiting to hear back from the nice folks @ Newegg, going on 4 days with no word back on a laptop, and a co-worker getting anxious as he is out a pile of cash and has no laptop to show for it, so going to give a ring tomorrow if the status isn’t updapted tomorrow.
For now though, I am going to call it a night. I hope tomorrow will be a bit more level, I can hopefully get some things done on various projects (got DBF -> MySQL.. so that’s a good thing) but lots of work yet to be done, if all works as planned, I can skip toying with Visaul Fox Pro and write a bash script to nightly re-generate MySQL tables and have some simple PHP handle generation of scripts and get folks a web interface they can easily use to generate reports instead of calls to me for various things.

Well I certainly hope not. The massive e-tailer is one I have used for years, great pricing, speedy shipping (specially when shipped from California) - it’s one of my favorite places to shop, heck even just picked up a 35mm lens for the E500, which should be delivered today, 4 days ahead of schedule.
But the problem at hand is a laptop - one that I purchased for a co-worker here at the office, he doesn’t have a credit card, so asked if he gave me the cash, if I’d grab the system, so I did. However it had issues, the screen would flicker the blacklight on and off, it had to be tilted 120 degrees back to even stay on, so we opened a RMA, packed it up, and sent it off just like they requested with RMA barcodes on board.
Now however over a week later, status is still at step 1. FedEx reports that “JWONG” signed for the package at the RMA site, and it was delivered 1 day after it shipped (July7 shipped out, Arrived the 8th) the site notes it can be 2-3 days, which is today, but even after a chat with live chat support, they were going to find it and at least check it in for me to give me some peace of mind. No such luck.
Never had these sorts of problems, but I guess it happens, just hoping this Egg with all it’s massive growth, expansion, etc. isn’t letting down their standards. It’s a one shot thing, and day three is today, so I am hoping it is updated soon, new laptop it shipped out and next week my co-worker is happy once again.

So a step in the right direction… just hope they can review, and send off a new one, and that come Monday everyone will be happy.
So a long week, a day sick in there, which I think I need a LOT more sleep, and a lot less stress. I am trying the juggling act of work and business, and it’s not horrible, but I feel sometimes like I am letting one side or the other down, but then again the sucky part @ work right now is there is literally nothing to do, until they give me money.
The big problem right now is over the last few months I have worked on quotes, new hardware game plans, and a company locally has pitched in to help, a guy I knew from long back works there, and he and I have worked out a fair plan, but the catch is - they are used to spending $79 on consumer grade products - so when someone say oh I don’t know…. Me, lays down a quote for $3000+ it raises and eye brow or two, but I have a battle, one person is for it, 2 against it, 1 unsure, and me playing the waiting game.
On top of everything else I think I am going to have a talk with my direct boss back east. I am tired of the games I am playing lately, of home repair man to the new house fixing Xbox360’s etc. for kids, and when I say kids I mean 18+ it’s just one of those things I didn’t really sign up for in my mind, I thought maybe the ocasional tune up on the bosses “WORK” station @ home, but not the Geeksquad routine to setup stuff that is honestly not business related - so I may be opening a can of worms, but at the same time I just am tired - tired of being pulled 30 ways, being hired for one thing, and disrespected when my judgement on hardware is questioned by someone who has been using Netscape 7.2 for years now. Yeah.
I dunno, venting aside, I do like the job, most of the time it’s mellow, granted my office is a heat trap, and I may die in there tomorrow (was 115F today!) but fun people, good crew, just wish I could truly do my job, have a budget, and get things setup and working smoother, more efficient, and all this consumer grade stuff meant for 5-10 users out of the network map.
In other news - comments are back, trying out Disqus, looks like it could be fun, give it a look, who knows! May be worth while and handle spam much better, but time will tell.
Anywhoo - that’s my rant, it’s friday now, so I am hoping a relaxing day is ahead, and looking forward to some fun things I’ll blog about later that are happening this weekend. Well stayed home from work today, slept a lot - had a meeting in the afternoon, it was canceled for the second day in a row - which was probably for the best, but for now I am hoping that I stop feeling like crap before morning - the headache alone is horrible.
Things have been busy though, thats why my mom is now convinced that my sickness is from stress, heck she could be right - that and the heat are two things lately which have been in abudance, heck in most of btown it’s still +90F and slowly coming down - which means sleep will happen soon.
Anywhoo - just checking in, lots to do this week, meeting tomorrow at lunch possibly, but I may need to cancel and head downtown, not 100% sure yet, just need to turn in my Traffic School cert, but time will tell - in the mean time, I’ll say “Good Night!” to all, and more blog to come.
