Soooooooo… how you all doing? This is the “its late, so brief blog” version of things, so here we go….
Backup at work is up and running, in the end with fakeraid I went with dmraid + RAID0 - so no real failure option, but at the same time, going to archive per-user to bzip and such sans media (personal mp3 files) and it’ll all be good, but it’s a rockin system, doing well.
Bowling - we have made it a weekly thing it looks like, as we are going Thursday night, but none the less bowling, so I’ll get to see if I can improve my game any from last week’s cosmic bowling. Crazy Girls in the lane next to us… long story.
Stargate - Ark of Truth is out, loved it. Bought it @ Target watched half of it at work while working on the backup server, but finished it @ home, rip’d it to Xvid for watching on-demand on the TV as well as a copy for the iPod… yes I love Stargate, I have all 10 seasons of SG1, and all of Atlantis. Good stuff indeed.
Shirts - got a few new ones, one came today, mainly artsy, also got one of a pigeon that says “I’m from the streets” looks cool, but I do need to do some laundry this weekend and get things ready, plus I need to find some clothes for Church and singing in the choir, may need to venture out to the GAP as their shorts/pants tend to fit me good.
Anywhoo… there it is, I am sure there is something I am leaving out, still waiting on my ticket, got to meet Solomon Poon, etc. etc. BUT it is time to goto bed soon, so I must wrap up, set out clothes for the AM, and get to it - bi-weekly meeting tomorrow, and more folks to get setup on the backup server. Howdy! Well since my goal of a full night’s sleep failed (bed by 10:30 up by 4am - 5 1/2 hours) - I figured what a better time to sit down and actually blog a bit about the whole Christmas time, as I have only posted blips and flickr links.
Christmas Eve - We went to Barry and Michelle’s for the evening feast, not feeling my best (read: Lack of Sleep) I only had some potatoes and ham, but hey it was tasty none the less - we had some fun, the dogs came in after dinner and we got some fun pictures of them, Beth took over the camera after a while as my head was killing me, and she got some fun shots. Jordan called in from Iraq to wish the family a merry Christmas - was pretty special for them.
So after things wrapped up there we came home and after a while my headache calmed down, which left me awake, so from about 10->12 I worked on developing some of the pictures in Lightroom, great thing to have digital negatives for is a dark room, so cleaned up various levels from the negatives and printed out some to fit in a set Mom got for Beth and Michael, so Christmas morning we could present them, it came out nice, the ol R340 still works like a charm, of course now it’s low on 4 colors, but that’s to be expected with the photos I print that are 8 1/2 x 11 
- not being able to sleep I worked on some gift wrapping for my mom, and eventually got to sleep, then woke up early for the next phase. Christmas Waffles.
Christmas Morning - We had fun, another year @ Beth and Michael’s for waffles, freshly cooked bacon (turkey and pork) as well as tasty sausage, then there was the piles of waffles. I had 6 total, delightful. So the fun continued, Cousins were there, and Dave and Jo, so lots of fam, twas fun! Then of course it was getting late thus it meant Mom needed to get to Work to do her Christmas Givings as well as prepare for the afternoon.
Christmas Afternoon - The plan was originally in my mind 4:30, but it turned out to be 2:30, but I am getting ahead of myself, at around noon I get server alarms that a customer server is offline, however - the server is online, so at first I am thinking “phew false alarm” then I get to looking, their primary server is offline (100+ sites) so my worry is to get investigations going at the DC on Christmas day could mean a long outage - well the response time was 5 minutes for them to reboot it, then took a little longer to run a FSCK on the drives. Logs show it was simply as I predicted “Out of Ram” so I am going to drop off a upgrade path for them Today - but thats another story.
So with my expected nap not going to be possible I printed up song sheets, as well as made copies of the music I was playing, and then headed off with Dad to the mini-Christmas service at the nursing home - Beth and Michael came to lend their voices, and it turned out pretty good, was still a tad rocky from the lack of sleep, and forgot that in practicing I lowered 2 songs down an octave as they were un-godly high lol. So when I looked at the song and tried to lower em in my brain, it half worked - ah the joys of the piano.
Christmas Evening gave me a chance to get some sleep under my belt, and most of the day after Christmas was sleep as well, so really I am getting my body some rest finally - but I still have pending orders that of course came in on Christmas day, but I figure since both are from current customers, and I sent out the newsletter explainin it was the holidays, they’ll be good waiting till today.
All in all a fun Christmas, it really wraps up on Friday with Ron, Harm, Goofball - coming to Bakersfield for Christmas BBQ (Burgers! Yum!) I also am planing one way or another to do the Lights at Calm on Friday so need to send out the invites to folks, but it has been a great week - I got 2 Wii games (Pirates of the Caribbean and Meet the Robinson’s) as well as 2 Shirts - and my favorite The Muppet Movie! - been wanting to see that for some time, and it was in my batch of Mom gifts. Good stuff.
Anywhoo - lots to do, going to try and get a lot of work done today across a lot of projects, as well as get some things around town done so hopefully today will be as productive as I have laid out in my head, if not, well there’s always Friday (hehe) Hope you all had a good Christmas, and soon we’ll be in 2008, craziness. So, while I could sum up bits and bit of the last two days, again, I am sticking to a picture, and a short story - I was laying down after breakfast (sleep is still messed up) - and just before the alarms went off about a customer’s server being down (another story for another time), I heard a noise and had to investigate things - when I got up, I saw this:
The cat climbed into a box in my room which was way too small for her, but she enjoyed it. LoL. More later, going to do a little work on servers, then try to go back to sleep after a 7hr nap. Hope Everyone had a good Christmas.

Now that’s what I call 2 days. A lot has been going on with business stuff as of late, I recently finished up the basic ground work to a new Thrust Networks homepage - it’s been nearly 7 years since it’s original went online, and for 7 long years it stayed the same - so now it’s getting a new lease on life, and I am very excited - in part I was prodded to get it up to date by the application process to process credit cards, you have to submit your website for review and make sure things like “Return Policy” and such are all clearly listed, and having gone thru it once before with my now “old” provider who will be canceled within a month or so (phasing folks over) I knew the game - so things went very smoothly, and now I can officially process Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, Discover! Definitely very stoked!
I had a good meeting with a client today, and got to talk with my good buddy Dan-o, was a nice day, I feel exhausted like I have run a marathon, maybe it’s some of this stress finally letting up, especially with this new card processor, it’s simply awesome, I bill a card thru it, instead of waiting 2 days, it’s in my account instantly, and I have a Debit card attached, so instant access to funds - very nice indeed, but also the finishing of the first leg of TN and now releasing the first of the FH Crazy October deals, very excited indeed, finishing up the game-plan for the remainder of the week as well as fine tuning some for next week - but I just feel like the tides are turning for the better.
Tonight I start test runs of Apache2 + PHP5 - my hope is to test several of the major apps out there in PHP, such as Wordpress, Gallery, 4Images, Etc. and ensure PHP5 compatibility, but I have a funny feeling for at least another 6 months, I’ll need to run both PHP4 & PHP5 to accommodate folks - but the big thing I am excited about is the migration of security to Apache2 and ModSecurity2.x - both which are wonderful tools, as-is for the current Apache 1.x/ModSecurity1.x branches - but 2 offers some more sexy with things like the ModSecurity Console - it’d be nice to have a more real-time over-view of security happenings across the servers, so I can make adjustments to the ModSecurity rules to better safeguard customers to the best of my ability.
So a fun evening ahead of me, which will probably just end with me passing out here in about 20 minutes, and having happy dreams - or I’ll get my second wind and start working on customer transfers from old billing -> new billing (yay!) already have a few in there, but more to come - ah fun fun fun - and PHP5 + Apache2 just finished compiling, dev copy of Wordpress on that box is working fine, more testing soon

I couldn’t bear it anymore! I have snagged Swing Swang Swung from Amazon’s MP3 store… it’s already 1/2 downloaded, only a few tracks more to go - they are slowly being added to iTunes and the iPod is standing by to sync it up. I am weak… but happy

So Amazon finally released their MP3 (DRM Free) Music store, and as usual with new store releases, beat out the price on some Apple store prices so why not take a peek and see what makes this kitten purr, and with the music being easy to use across the board I should have no problems transferring files across MP3 players or my phone for ring tones, so on with the show!
