random ramblings of a crazed nerd

Well what a week, heck what a crazy 2 weeks, today though things got better on the server front, hardware was in, software was installed, cPanel lic.’s were purchased - and I doubt I’ll sleep tonight - re-imaging Homestar right now (aka this server) base is down, so now is the “waiting” process for cPanel install, hours, of fun.

Prolonged stress is not good for the ol body, I was dead today, found a server which has 15 errors now, so the timing for migration is perfect, sadly there won’t be much warning for customers per-say, but I am going to push one server ASAP so things are safe, secure, and on new hardware, it run’s backups tomorrow too, so should give me a day tops, but I do want to migrate things over the next 2 days, but I know several folks who that may not work for instantly, but I think I can make it happen, plus new DNS system in place, some changes should happen a LOT quicker.

Pray for Sam M. and his family, there as an explosion today and his Dad was one of the injured,  I haven’t gotten any updates, last I knew was that he left the office, and headed for the hospital where his dad was going into surgery, I have txt. messages out, but hospital areas sometimes require cell phones off, so hopefully things are going okay - but your prayers are appreciated.

Pray for Me too - I am frazzled and fried, long nights, high-stress, no sleep, etc. and it’s not over yet, but hopefully get a few winks here tonight briefly and start early in the AM getting things migrated, going to move my own stuff ASAP, that way I am on a fresh IP addy and emails alerting folks to changes go out, but moves are always a pain, but in this case, must be done.

But there’s something a nice dump of my brain going into this Fake Friday, should be a fun one (i hope) Night Folks.

What a whirl-wind week. A few servers jumps coming, doing some nameserver re-arranging, syncing, etc. should help normalize all clients, plus a fresh batch of IP’s to help get some folks out of blocked lists on hotmail etc. but this week may continue on and on and on and on and on it seems - but I think all things said and done, it’s getting better each hour, heck maybe as far to say every minute.

Tonight was a little crazy, helped the kMan at the office, worked on getting a few installs going, let him actually crash in his chair for about 20-30 minutes, then he said “Time to go home Chuckles” - which is a funny thing lately, folks have all sorts of nicknames for me, my brother’s is probably my favorite “Chuckles the Destroyer” lol - not sure why, or how he came up with it, but its just plain awesome.

Some possible good news, a job. Not a contract gig, but a real life job, making a salary a month, which while could keep me busy, also allows me to re-vamp their system, and really balance out my work with their work, and gives me a nice steady pay-check - so prayerfully that happens, because it would help on another for-sure good news, got a invite to the land down under and my friend said she’d go with me, heck by the end of the day the office was all “let’s all go!” so Jon, we may need a few tents for the lawn lol - but seriously I am definitely looking at that, because it would be neat to actually leave this continent and also take pictures on another chunk of land.

What else, trying to empty my brain here so when I lay my head down, its a tad more empty, had a talk with the kMan about random things, nothing serious, just chit-chat of his obersations of me, kind of interesting, but as usual he’s supportive of me, heck he said “lets get the pizza and go” at dinner when my server alert came in and said “DOWN” so he’s a good friend, always has been - and I do what I can to give back, thus I was helping with his backlog of PC’s even though I am a mostly mac user these days, I still know my way around a PC and was able to work/diagnose/repair work on a few, some we had issues which are calls in the AM but all in all a lot done I think.

Well, today when I wake up, i think I am going to head out first (granting its not noon) and get some shots, and have a bit of a photo Friday, I am thinking of actually doing city scape’s vs. wide open spaces, granted got a AWESOME moon tonight, and possibly clear tomorrow, might be fun to wander the crazy city I live in for some inspiration and camera hijinxs - so maybe simple and in-town, but the day will tell, plus I have a SBC aka AT&T rep coming tomorrow between 8am-5pm - so I am going to need to stop in now and again, but hopefully that fixes the line up, a lunch with Courtney and Jake, since me and Courtney keep giving  Jake a hard time about lunch breaks, he gave in, tomorrow were eating at the Antique Mall then exploring the top floor or the lower level, not sure yet

Speaking of Courtney before I forget, keep her in your prayers, her fibromyalgia was acting up, bad headache and such, so she could use your prayers, office has been a tad bit of a mad-house with her boss out on a big job, she’s sort of been thrown into power, but still not knowing the boss man’s set of rules/how-to’s and secret handshake - so with the computers backing up on the bench she had some mildly irritated folks, but hopefully my help tonight will lessen some of those calls and have lots of happy people in the AM.

Anywhoo - thats all I got, server just blinked again, but came back (during which time the server was still active) so I am calling it a night, hoping tomorrow will bring photos, servers, fun, and of course with a Friday, a end to a week and a start of some easy going relaxin.

Well another week is upon me, and a slew of things to-do. I am packing up the FlockHosting design with it’s CMS, and getting it ready to make the move, I am going to set it up on the Friends server at the office, and make some fine tuning adjustments, and bring it up to date as I have tried to deploy it not once, not twice, but 5 times over the last 3 months - so thats a big chore for this week.

Other side projects include (but are not limited to):

• Deployment & Configuration of Titus.
• Upgrade to ModernBill 5.x
• Pay some bills.
• Have a night out other than with work folk (movie anyone?)
• A photo Friday (weather allowing)
• Customer Migrations
• New Thrust Networks Goodies (business cards, website, services listings, etc.)

But that’s just this week, it should be rather insane, which means sleep should be happening here soon,  but I am still organizing things to go in the backpack and the laptop bag for the day tomorrow, but do keep me in your prayers, busy work tends to get me forgetting things like resting, eating, unwinding, so that’d be good thing to have folks prayin for me on, as well as some customer issues, some customers have really out-dated our incorrect data on file, which makes some things hard to do, one customer is trying to cancel, but can’t confirm all her info, so I look like the “mean company” by not letting her leave, but I can’t be 100% sure it’s her - so many things of that nature going on.

Well @ the office Courtney scheduled fake Friday in for me yesterday after a long Monday with dad’s trip to ER, it was much needed, but sadly I did work some and get things done - however being now officially mid-week, it is the real-deal, my fake Friday, which really is just a mindset, but I think may also include a movie-night.

Got my check for the server work I did end of last year, was happy to get it, goes towards the server clean-up here, so waiting for it to clear, but should be 100% in by Friday, but other payments still coming in so possibly sooner! It’s very awesome to think of what is possible, this server configuration has me excited to re-do all of the servers, a lot of work, and probably a few nights without too much sleep, but what it brings to the table:

So yes, very excited! And now that my dad is back home and doing well (Thanks for the prayers) one less worry on my brain, thankfully his heart is perfect, he was just majorly dehydrated from the new meds - so adjusted medication and he was doing good.

So it looks like Feb. is a good month, I get older, means a special deal on FH as usual, new servers, new billing, new support, new new new - so its all good! Just wish I had time to finish every little thing here on my to-do list, but it’s getting there, going to grind away on it a bit, hoping to get to the office and find a pile of checks, going to check the other office too and see if anyone addressed wrong, but hopefully a few hundred in checks, and I can push forward on a few things

Anywhoo - have a great Fake Friday all!

Today went a lot better (or rather I guess I should say, Yesterday) - but I got some good work done, got another order in, and I need to call a customer back on one tomorrow, but all things considered, it was a fun day. Even got to meet the newest Foster in the Foster family, cute kiddo, and I now have my new buddies Ethan and Carlie - it was a fun evening, of course, we didn’t get the baby’s picture taken, but I have some fine shots of Ethan’s transformers

A much needed day, a nice balance of work, and a nice balance of simply relaxing - me and my red-headed buddy ate Cheeze-it’s while Matt talked on the phone, and I got to chat a little with Marcie, and Ethan sang me the Transformers song I can safely say I wouldn’t mind a day like that again soon!

What else, I feel like I am forgetting something, server stuff is picked out, got my paper invoicing out, watched the Illusionist, and I shaved loosing the bearded look, and I killed over 200+ zombies (Rising Dead for Xbox360 @ the office) - so really, it’s good, all coming together, just had to really let go on some things, as in my hands, it seemed impossible, but now, if all goes as planned, by Friday I could have a new set of servers, new billing, new website, and who knows, if time allows, maybe a fresher for the blog’s look? let’s not rush things!
