I hate Apple…. okay not really… but sorta.

Well going to the coast today (surprise Bro!) - my mom is spending a week or so up there, and my dad wants some more time on his project car, so he’s working on it thru the weekend, and then coming up on Monday to vacation with her - but I really wish I had my iPod *tear* - and while I might have a check coming in today which would let me splurge, run to target and get one, there of course is the lingering Apple event on the 5th, now one of the few things rumored are new iPods, which if Apple keeps with it’s track record as of late, it has a 50/50 chance with me (love the iMac keyboard, didn’t like the new iMac - long story) - so part of me wants to wait, and another part says (4 hrs in the car over the next 2 days iPod = Good) - but another part says, suck it up. LoL.

The thing that sucks is waiting for something that could be “Wow” or “oh… cool” - there have been mockups of a new Nano-ish iPod offering, not for me, my dream would be a wider screen (aka iPhone-ish size) and Flash based storage (30gb in a flash… oh yes) - so we shall see, but then again, I may just jump the gun, and get a 80gb iPod sooner than later, if the check happens today, I can do it easy, but then again, patience? LOL.

So far the week has started to mellow out a bit, some code work to do this morning, I do need to get my car over to the car-wash (needs a good deep clean/vacuuming)  and a oil change as well, and I am tempted to call my insurance company and say “Haha!” as they made me go up to 10k miles, and this past year of car insurance I only did my original estimate of 8k - nerds. But I only paid a month of them as I think once the funds balance out next month I’ll switch to Progressive who was one of the few companies to give me a very nice quote.

Anywhoo - been up since 3am, a slew of things to do today, oil change is my big list item, but just got the car all cleared out, and ready to go in, not sure what time they open, but I am guessing around 10am would be more than perfect to go swing by a check - and I need to run by the bank deposit some money, and break a $100 bill into some $20’s for the trip, life - busy busy. :) TTFN friends.

Brain Overload….

Busy busy - Today was just one of those days, wished a lot more had been done, wish some things had not taken up some of my time, but such is life I suppose - I have a lot on my mind, and with that sometimes my ability to reason and be rational about situations goes out the window, I sat down for a little over an hour to watch some recorded TV, let me relax a bit - but still just a temporary escape.

Some things happened good, server client paid today, so that’s a plus, no having to scrounge for funds or kill a server, got a check in the mail I wasn’t expecting… sure sure it’s for $15 but hey - that’s eat’n money ;) I had hoped for another positive talk about business, but it never seemed to happen, it was one up’d by a site getting hacked that belongs to local government, and having to do some disabling of it and get it temporarily cleaned up, but even there, some more work to come.

I would ask of you all who read this to keep me in your prayers, as of late I feel like I am on the edge of a big step in life, big changes, big adjustments - some things like an apartment, job, etc. all are big parts, but I dunno, that is one thing in my mind lately I have been throwing around that whole “ah life” bit, trying to figure out what I’m here for as sometimes while I do love helping folks, I feel like a rag doll, just tossed around then left by the wayside - people who claim I am as I have said before “worth your weight in gold!” I sure sometimes that folks only say that to keep me happy and part of the team :( but its all part of this change I think, I dunno, just lately I feel different, aside from sleep deprived (that’s nothing new) I just feel like I just have to go a little further and it’ll be to a next step. I guess time will tell.

For now I will say my usual “Anywhoo…” and log off, I want to hit the bathroom, then head up the mountain, hoping to enjoy the calm, the breeze, and possibly the chance to see 2 moons in the sky during this lunar eclipse. So thanks in advance for the prayers, more later.

New Keyboard - I can type again!

Well my old old old old (insert additional old’s) keyboard was having some issues, just seemed to take more and more to get the thing to type, things like oh I don’t know “spacebar” decided on occasion not to work, or the E key would simply not work either - so after thinking about it and watching CompUSA (wanted to see it first) I decided to venture down and give the new Apple keyboard a demo, the feel is actually rather nice, I saw the new iMac’s and I must say - still not impressed, Apple makes nice stuff, but at the same time its the iMac, I had hoped for some innovation in the all-in-one design, but at least it had the keyboard attached for demo.

It is very nice, still haven’t done the apple keyboard update, requires me to reboot, and I have things running for a while, so I can’t really shut down just yet, but probably tomorrow - but all in all, it is a nice feel, sleek look, and things plug in really nicely. Now I just need a Mac Pro and 2 big monitors, and I am set! :)

Tomorrow flags a new day, some things on the todo include - some CSS, working to make a little “Client Preview” app to replace the ol static HTML, everything will run off a txt file and let me do updates a LOT faster vs. by hand editing some HTML code, all formatting will just work, once it’s done, its easy to update and then some - also the more pressing project is to finish the first run of the sign-up app, still fiddling with AJAX to do dynamic username lookups, but I may ditch that and do a secondary screen after failure that says “Your name was taken” and have them choose another, or simply pick the username first before they re-enter passwords and such 30 times.

So! I am going to wrap it up and call it a night, as much as I’d love to stay up I want to try and keep a semi-regular sleep schedule, granted it’ll be ruined tomorrow with the eclipse, and mars, but hey such is life :) but tomorrow I have a lot to get done, and more fun playing with the new billing system which I think will become the new backend for billing/support on FH - and soon will do the same for TN - joy joy ;)

Anywhoo - have a good week folks, thanks for the prayers, im’s and kind donations - who hopefully this week will go well, and who knows, in time that ol iPod may be mine again. :) Night!

Gig Gig Gig Gig!

Yesterday was a whirl wind of a day, I went to bed at 7am, only to be woken up at 9:30am by a call, which then I was awake again, and no time to sneak in a real nap, I went to my lunch meeting, awesome stuff, good solid meeting, got some ground work laid out, and I got some upfront money, which is a nice infusion to the budget right now, this month was getting a bit tight there, but thankfully with that, and hopefully something else thats brewing in the sidelines, things will all work out.

Few folks have commented to me the other day they would like to see me with a iPod again, as I do miss the ol bugger, but still holding out, if this one gig works out (which I am praying does) then things all around get easier, get a nice apartment, get savings built back up, a nice touch of stability really - it’d be a lot of work, but in the end, what worthwhile isnt? So hopefully things pan out, a iPod budget forms, and I can enjoy delightful tunes ;)

All in all things thus far this week have gone good, I am hoping for the trend to go the same thru today, and give me a nice relaxing Friday, but life is life ;) ya just never know! But for now, I am going to do some database layout, both for short-term and long-term of this new project, have to map out a user database, I want to do a little ajax bit if possible to do dynamic username checking, so if someone types in “buttercup” it lets them know that is already taken without having to re-submit 30 times.

Anywhoo - have a good Thursday folks!

I miss my iPod… and I party too much.

Oh how I loathe and love technology sometimes ;) I miss my iPod for my car, it was nice to have my collection on hand in the car, easy to access, not to mention easy to put on headphones at night and pull up a playlist and rock out while coding :) ah only in due time, I almost bought one at Target the other day, but I held myself back… a while longer still… if only I had $350 on hand for the 80gb model…. ah a boy can dream can’t he? :)

Tonight it was one wild time after another, got to hang out with friends, it was a good time, a really nice Saturday night, granted more sleep might of been a good idea, but all in all, fun fun - played a little poker, still suck lol - but I want to get some rules down for blackjack, I think it’d be fun - and I’m not bad at it ;) but hopefully if I can wing it, more fun to come as the summer ends and we all settle into patterns again.

Work front.. some things brewing I think… a weird Friday, good/bad - but things could be moving forward, found out some odd stuff about some folks, about how they think of me apparently, and the level of respect they have for others I know - sad really, but I suppose folks aren’t always what they seem, such is life, and life goes on, but in my own life, some things could be in the works which could make some good changes.

Anywhoo, its almost 4am, I am watching Eureka, drinking water, and pondering sleep after this episode … so I wish you all a happy Sunday, take care!

366 pages of paper.

Been a while since I have read a book for fun, granted there are code manuals, sites online I brush up on new things with, but to actually enjoy a book? Been a while. My book of choice was on I had read before, but it’s a power, well written book. Operation Firebrand. It is a 3 novel series, and I own all three, so 1 down, 2 to go ;)

Nice to relax away from the console, just like watching the meteor shower the other night, a nice change of pace - lots of things are on the horizon, change of location, change of jobs (sorta) lots of change, and thankfully I am remembering to unwind again, which for me, isn’t something I can usually do - amping down after a high-stress/anxiety bit is still not the easiest thing for me.

Anywhoo, being it’s 430am and I am awake, going to check in on backups, then I think I am going to aim for one of the following:

  1. Back to Sleep
  2. Start Book #2
  3. Take a Shower

So I will say farewell, have a great Wednesday!

Monday Monday…

Ah the joys of Monday, lots to do, and only 24 hours to do it in ;) I have already been up for 3 hours, played a little, read a little, little a littled - but some fun tasks today include:

  • Calling WAMU about 3 other accounts that never got merged. Yay.
  • Canceling ReplayTV for real.
  • Calling Brighthouse to ditch HDTV Package (cheesy 3 channels) and switch over to the Starz package for movies.
  • Follow up with 2 possible programming gigs.
  • Drink Water
  • Toy with billing systems (yay!)
  • Eat Cake
  • Dance…Dance… Dance..

So there it is, hopefully I can get the first 5 done for sure, the billing systems bit is on-going, and while I wish it was a easy conversion or upgrade, I have a few choices to look through, short of toying with the system again on my own, which at some level, may be my preferred choice, as the billing systems out there really have begun to irritate me in functionality, ease of order, ease of gateways, etc. and while Modernbill has been good to me, the upgrade path from 4.x -> 5.x looks annoying, not to mention 5.x really doesn’t “wow” me, it’s like Vista, lots of hype low on delivery ;)

So there ya have it, got a email half drafted in gmail going out to Friends later today I hope about a move this weekend - I tried to get some photo time in last night with the meteor shower, only to find out “noise = bad” the level of noise on my camera at high ISO is bad, but trying to take pictures of mainly “black” came up with just TONS of noise, need a bigger magnification and a tripod.

Anywhoo - have a good Monday folks, I’ll be on IM, cell etc. if anyone needs me, send money ;)
