Well tonight sadly marked the end of the “Sleep Fest 2007″ for the last week or so, I got to bed early, woke up for maybe 5 minutes in the middle of the night, then passed out again to awaken early - tonight however, I laid down for a bit to try and stretch out after a day in the chair, and bam, out like a light, which leads me to 1:15am when I woke up and wasn’t just “awake” I was “UP! AND READY FOR DUTY SIR!” no idea why/what - just up.
So I am here working on some misc. things, one of which was upgrading Wordpress, sadly I had to ditch the k2 theme, just too many of the plugins I enjoy and hacked up to work all fancy, no longer work in this version for whatever reason, and I have no desire to poke around and find the old version that worked, so back to Wordpress basic templates again, this one isn’t my favorite, but it’ll work till I can get some time in to code some similar functionality as the last one, hopefully with the new tools ordered, I’ll get some time to give CSS another whirl and see if I can leave the world of tables and font tags behind
A good day for bringing in the bacon so to speak, cleared $900 in incoming today, should of been $1020, but none the less, $900 is better than $000! But things are picking up around here it seems, taking on this project has me jazzed, not the most money I’ve made on a design in my time, but not the least either, really at some level above and beyond as a way to thank the photographer for the deal and fun photos she took @ my friend’s wedding, its also a way for me to get my feet wet in design again, and while some tasks today took me much longer than they would of in the past, it felt good to be working on it again.
Plans for the early AM include, checking into an expired SSL cert., flushing a site that was compromised, putting in a manual apache hack for a client to help out, refreshing the CS3 order page for a tracking # constantly, and working on the sketches for secret project #20391, may even get some work done on the FH end of things, some updates I need to do, also hacking up the old TN layout I had done about 3 yrs ago, still looks good, just want to clean it up, make it little faster on the load time, and get it ready for production.
Anywhoo - keep me in your prayers, busy busy around here - things always seem to amp up, hoping to get some spare cash in the bank, and then open up a savings account for the first time in a few years, really want to build up my savings, and get some bills paid off, so hopefully I can keep up with the load, and get things rolling up and up. Thanks for stopping by! Have a Good Tuesday!
Well I ordered Creative Suite CS3 Design Premium today, probably be here by Friday, didn’t do the digital download like last time, wanted a hard copy - so now I wait and work on the current project with CS2 in the mean time, so far it works, just gets slow sometimes running it in Rosetta, CS3 was slick, so hoping the migration to the CS3 suite will prove very useful, plus should allow me to work on my own photography site after I get some projects rolling and done in the coming weeks.
Today has been a mixed day of ups and downs, sore still pushing fluids and about to go take some tylenol for the first time since the pain started, part of me wonders if its Wisdom Teeth, they tend to make me hurt all over, like my body distributes the pain to make the main source no so bad, which in itself is nice, but none the less pain, so here’s to hoping that the meds help some and the water keeps me fluids up as we endure this mild weather, oh 115F I miss you!
The idea book is doing well, used it at the meeting to jot down notes, and today as I worked in Illustrator and Photoshop sketched out ideas, then worked them out in Illustrator and Photoshop - I miss design, my first loves always seem to take a backseat to work, music, art, etc. things I love to do, things I love to dive into, heck being back on Photoshop on a Mac alone felt like I was back at school, maybe it’s time to go back? Come away with at least an AA so I can claim to be a college grad
Anywhoo - more of the day beckons, been a busy one, new order, which is cool, but I have a plan rolling around in my head for people who have been with me over 2 years to join a founders club and get a fantastic deal on hosting, but a limited time, limited number of people to sign up to help balance out the budget, and really say “thanks” to folks who really helped start and get the business a float all those years ago - so we shall see! Take care all, have a wonderful Week!
Well I have not ordered it just yet, but I am looking at Monday simply buying the upgrade for CS2 so I can have Intel native CS3 version of my software, the CS2 stuff still works, and while the old adage says if it’s not broke don’t fix it, the benefit of this upgrade is things like Dreamweaver, Flash, Acrobat - native, fast, and sexy.
I thought about throwing in a iPod or the 35mm lens, however I am going to go easy on it, and hold off, CS3 upgrade is not a cheap purchase by any means, so I want to do it right, the nice thing about getting Flash is it works perfectly with a upcoming project, which I may be doing, may be handing off, my time lately has been in such a flux back and forth between mild-freetime and insanely busy - so time will tell.
Took the night and went with Sister and Bro-in-law to go see Oceans 13, fun movie, I’d say the level of fun on Oceans 11 - I did enjoy Oceans 12, but this one, just good humor, the gilroy, and but of course - Super Dave Osbourne - good movie, I will admit some things were a little obvious, but I think you’ll see it plays into the game of it all, and the mustaches and wigs, lol - simply awesome.
Anywhoo - its 10, going do my last checks of the night, and call it a day, thanks for the prayers, thanks for stopping by - till next time! Happy Weekend!
Well I got an email tonight that the server was down, checked my phone to see if I somehow magically missed a page, report was okay, so I tried to login to the server, worked, hit the two sites the customer had issue with, worked. The issue? SMF 1.1.1 - it posts a phpsessid to the URL and thus triggers mod_security, well recent tweaks to the intrusion system I flagged a configuration option which reads the mod_security log, and blocks on its fails. Thus the customer’s IP was banned via the firewall.
I think I may be getting overly exhausted, I do that now and again in the middle of big projects and various things looming, I really need to take a photo day, heck maybe even a nap day to follow that
but something is definitely not quite right, found myself today around 12:30 just dead tired, I took a nap till 2:30, then woke up, made some calls, helped Sam over at Fluxar get some PHP magic happening, then hung out a bit doing laundry, and I was exhausted again, laid down and woke up at 10pm - so just tired tired tired, going to try crashing out here again in a minute.
Got another project today, meeting a Photographer on Thursday @ Starbucks to go over some plans for her website, already jotted some notes from our call, and our previous talk at the wedding, but I think it should be fun, I have a server migration to plan, and I imagine in a day or so once all options are exhausted I’ll be getting a call from a site to look at an issue they are having, which leads me to spare cash.
Granted now I have some bills to pay, the big server setup a few months ago wasn’t what I’d call “cheap”, and some other expenses came up, so I have bills to pay, but I have been wanting to pickup a 80GB iPod 5G as well as a 35mm lens for the E-500, so I have both items sitting in my cart @ Newegg, just trying to hold off if possible, I know I could live without the new iPod, however I’d love to pickup the E-510 body (not the kit) and the 35mm lens, expensive, but it’d give me two 4/3 compatible camera bodies, 3 lenses - aka - lovely. With a wedding or two this fall season I’d love to get some time behind the lens and the E-510 before, but Newegg only has the E-510 kit, granted it comes with one lens I don’t have, but if I got that, I couldn’t get the 35mm also.
Anywhoo… I feel sleepy, so I am going to try sleep again, hopefully it comes, and hopefully the night is mellow. Night folks, prayers appreciated for my health, and if anyone feels overly generous to donate a 80GB iPod, E-510, 35mm lens, or even just some cash, let me know
While the topic of this post leaves really only 1 easy to understand term “3 Shows” - all 3 things do have meaning (promise!) - but first off the three shows, tonight I wanted to catch all 3 shows hitting the air tonight:
- The 4400
- The Dead Zone
- Robot Chicken: Star Wars
I enjoyed all three, the 4400 was nice to have back, and see things start to shape up, and more questions enter in, the dead zone was nice, but sad to see some cast members start the season off by leaving, not going to say much more than that as I know some folks were waiting for that, and for them to know Johnny dies… omw! I slipped up, next thing you know I’ll say the rev. is now seeing visi… okay.. I’ll stop - Robot Chicken was just priceless, if you didn’t catch it, try to, well worth the 30m.
The “Link” is looking good, in the morning my beta testers hit the code running, some known bugs - of which I’ll be ironing out is a login check, but really its not a bug as much as its not something I tasked for in the running of this code, but should be easy to fix up, like 3 lines of code - but it does its function very nicely, I am going to try some other tweaks and see if the link can be tuned up a bit more, but really, it works just peachy thus far - testers in the AM will shed light on more features/less features needed
As for the Toaster, its a codename in the testing of Link to categorize things up, and it is just one of my random words I throw out like Toast, it works well.
This week should be mildly busy, got a call Sunday night that I missed from Dan about getting together to hang / chat business / eat cake (okay, I added that last one, but I like cake!) - but I also have a meeting to setup with a local Photographer about getting her website up and running, secured the domain for her at the wedding I went to, and so now its just a matter of getting things together, and making her a pretty site, which I may just hand off to Dan if he likes, and do the hosting for it, who knows!
Anywhoo - 3am, and I got a LOT done, some things I didn’t that I hoped I would, but hopefully over the next 2 weeks things line up, and I can get out and do a Summer Heat photo shoot
nothing like taking photos in 105F weather
have a good week folks!
In windows if ever I rarely re-installed the OS - never had a reason to, wasn’t a big application tester of things like Smileys, Every IM app released, or add-on’s to IE/IM - in other words to hip kids back when I worked @ a few community websites, I was a stick in the mud. Hello Mud.
Well when I picked up the iMac way back when, I of course fiddled, I installed dev tools, things I really don’t need installed now since I have a dev server back in-house, and the slew of softwares I installed and tested - since gone, there are a lot of leftovers that could use some cleaning, and a fresh setup to 10.4.9 before the all-magical re-installs of my standard apps - but maybe this weekend while tearing apart my room some more (need a bigger place)
A busy day Friday, laid sod - rather I more transported it really, wheel barrow and tarp full of sod again and again, my sister now has a green covered backyard @ her home - pretty cool, and the sprinklers are keeping it nice and wet in our 105F weather! but a fun day followed up with catching Silver Surfer later that afternoon, pretty decent flick, heard several comic book guru’s complaining about a few things, but not being a Marvel guy, it was just a good movie to me.
Anywhoo - working on a server for a client (yay!) re-compiling Apache/PHP right now since he’s a bit behind (only hires me when things are broke and behind) - so doing my usual tune up, so far so good - but have a good weekend people, if your in California, try to stay cool (or Cory in AZ with 109 today… yowza!). Night.
A year or so ago I picked up a ReplayTV unit as they were having a sale, it worked great, but with a HD TV now I was desiring the joys of a Digital Recording on HD stations, well today in running the numbers, by ditching the $13/m fee of the Replay and bulking Digital Cable + HighSpeed - I could get a lower rate. So I signed up! plus the lady was nice and kicked in 6 months lower cost, discounted the DVR, gave me HD channels & HD component cables for free. Pretty slick.
I as a test setup a few of the commonly recorded shows and watched Scrubs and currently Studio60 in HD, such a nice quality of picture! Over all though, really - very happy - tomorrow I am going to have them light up one of the packages I had asked for, but didn’t get added, it adds the Encore networks on, which has some fun movies - plus tomorrow I get to call and cancel the ReplayTV service, going to of course dissect/hack up the ReplayTV hardware, and maybe get my Brothers and mine and set them up to both snag older Analog TV for fun
(I’m a nerd, what can I say?)
Tomorrow also brings the laying of SOD, should be fun, hopefully only 3-4 hours of time laying it, but we have 7 people working, should go pretty smooth I hope, leave at 6:30am, so going to probably crash out around mid-night, and get a good 6hrs in under my belt, it seems to be my sweet spot when it comes to rest, so going to give it a go - also need to call a photographer tomorrow about a website, I meant to call her nearly a month ago, but just all the server bleh coming up - priorities stability over sales sadly.
I wish I could say “things are going good” but lot on my mind lately, a few things I am trying to sort out - but I can safely say - I am alive - and going into a Friday, I am prepared to unwind a bit, so I’ll say - have a good evening/good Friday tomorrow, take care - and see you on the flip side.
