A year or so ago I picked up a ReplayTV unit as they were having a sale, it worked great, but with a HD TV now I was desiring the joys of a Digital Recording on HD stations, well today in running the numbers, by ditching the $13/m fee of the Replay and bulking Digital Cable + HighSpeed - I could get a lower rate. So I signed up! plus the lady was nice and kicked in 6 months lower cost, discounted the DVR, gave me HD channels & HD component cables for free. Pretty slick.
I as a test setup a few of the commonly recorded shows and watched Scrubs and currently Studio60 in HD, such a nice quality of picture! Over all though, really - very happy - tomorrow I am going to have them light up one of the packages I had asked for, but didn’t get added, it adds the Encore networks on, which has some fun movies - plus tomorrow I get to call and cancel the ReplayTV service, going to of course dissect/hack up the ReplayTV hardware, and maybe get my Brothers and mine and set them up to both snag older Analog TV for fun 
(I’m a nerd, what can I say?)
Tomorrow also brings the laying of SOD, should be fun, hopefully only 3-4 hours of time laying it, but we have 7 people working, should go pretty smooth I hope, leave at 6:30am, so going to probably crash out around mid-night, and get a good 6hrs in under my belt, it seems to be my sweet spot when it comes to rest, so going to give it a go - also need to call a photographer tomorrow about a website, I meant to call her nearly a month ago, but just all the server bleh coming up - priorities stability over sales sadly.
I wish I could say “things are going good” but lot on my mind lately, a few things I am trying to sort out - but I can safely say - I am alive - and going into a Friday, I am prepared to unwind a bit, so I’ll say - have a good evening/good Friday tomorrow, take care - and see you on the flip side.
One could hope that Steve mixed up his Keynote out of the leaked items, trying to “crush” folks who got ahold of his keynote, but on the other end, it could just simply of been meant to suck I had hoped for LED iMac’s, or new iPod, or a “Suprise here’s 10.5!” or “10.5 public-beta anyone?” but NOOOO - the 2006 replay of 10.5, Safari 3 beta, some games, really kind of “eh”.
But none the less, my 2GB of ram for MyFruit will be here tomorrow, so should be nice to have a jump from 1.5 -> 3, but it’s been nice using 802.11n on it lately, the router seems to be working, however not sure as to what it is, I need to wire in the VoIP - but I am starting to think its the VoIP or its application rules if left on it dies - 5+ days of uptime, which is a massive upgrade in uptime.
Got some headway on my project, got several elements wired in, still working on a single element that is a BIG part of it, in bringing it all together - just need to try out some options, but the only one requires buying a $80 piece of software, part of me is weary of that, so kind of sucky.
Anywhoo - a short/long day (if that makes any sense) - I need to try and wrap up here and get to bed, need to finish out this one ticket, but even that - I just want to goto sleep and finish it in the morning, so here’s to hoping for a full night’s rest- take care all.
Sorry had to say that - hello! I have been a sneaky one, server upgrades have nearly been a constant the last few days, lots of tweaks/patches/hotfixes, heck half way through tonight’s batch I noticed the version number went up 3 lol, from 13514 to 13517 - so getting one last patch before I visit my pillow again, or at least consider it.
Last few days have been good, with only a minor road bump, but such is life - got a new client today, another trying to decide what package they want, and me sketching out an ad for the new monthly special of 8 accounts - 8 accounts, when they are gone, they are gone - should be fun!
I started watching World Trade Center last night/morning - and if my power hadn’t been all “eh” (thus the reason for the last post about using my phone for internet) I’d of watched the entire thing - very powerful - but I imagine it’s got that added punch because I remember 9/11 watching the news, and the news for weeks after - so I guess seeing this perspective really makes it hit home even more.
Made an order today, a 2GB stick of ram for myfruit (aka the macbook pro) it makes it have 3gb of ram, should help speed things up, also got a cool cover for it, transparent black (aka the apple logo shines thru) but should help keep the shiny metal shiny, also got a portable drive (120GB) and a external enclosure for 3.5 drives (standard hard drive) so I go through a hard drive pile here in the office - the BIG purchase was the new printer - does Network Printing/Scanning - also acts as a copier, so pretty nice!

Well after some mild planning, and some work today on my fake day off (though, I did have a BBQ which was delightful) - I setup Homebase, the new home for my company websites, thus so email is not fubar’d by out of control client scripts - which has become an issue lately, folks say they don’t get welcome emails, etc. but because of how “shared” hosting works, 1 bad egg, can ruin an entire IP - so Homebase was setup to migrate the support, billing, and homepages for my business - should help smooth things out - got it all up-to-date, patched up, and so far so good.
Also found 2 servers today getting attacked, was not fun, so some mild tweaking to get things back in the pretty range, it’s holding me over, but I really want to get rid of Frontpage - while it does offer a “friendly” publishing system for folks, the end result is not pretty when folks go to attack those “friendly” interfaces which Frontpage connects to, so considering ditching that where I can, or maybe setup a box for customers who want Frontpage, and lock everything else down.
This week has only barely started, and it feels like its already Thursday, just a mild weekend, I really need to escape somewhere, that nobody knows my name lol. I enjoy getting out with friends, but lately anymore folks seem to be super-stressed, can’t say I am not in that same boat at times, but probably be a few more months before I can really “escape” starting to get a handle on the budget again, and while I had really considered getting the 80gb iPod today (refurb @ apple.com) - bottom line is, budget needs to catch up a bit more before I can take that plunge - so iPods, Lenses, etc. all on the “wait” going to try and setup a micro site for selling Prints of my photography, which means short days out for photo exploring, but no mega trips or fancy new lenses to play with 
Been apartment hunting, nothing ultra serious, but really weighing the options, as at some level as a new home buyer, and fair credit, I could probably easily get a house, which does bring in a slew of other bills, but really no less than what I’d be looking at for renting an apartment at some level - but there are some nice Town houses around, good amount of room, fair neighborhoods, decent price, but who knows - part of me really is pondering if Bakersfield is my long-term home, I enjoy the town - and I do have work here - but a majority of my business, can be done from just about anywhere, give me a secure connection, a cup of tea, and I’m good to go
The idea book has been going good, some cool stuff laid out, same with gearing up for the 365 project, have the MBP getting setup tomorrow to goto the east side starbucks and do some tunnel testing for secure browsing / chatting / etc. while @ the cafe - so who knows - if I ever get to sleep, I may get there before noon 
Anywhoo - 2am is rolling around, so time to try and pack it in, though I doubt sleep will come, took a nap this afternoon, so who knows, may be up for a bit! Have a Good Tuesday All.
So hit the 8pm showing of Pirates, the show started with 9 people in our group, some left in the middle due do fussy baby I am guessing, but I got to sit next to Angel who kept tickling me! (kids are silly) but it was a fun night, a mixed day, but the night totally washed away all the junk from the day and while I’d love to vent it all, part of it is just my own frustrations in things - and such is life I suppose.
The movie was good - some said “confusing” I thought it was a good flick overall, had some “made you think” spots, which my brain of course enjoyed - but by far is the dynamic duo of Jack (the monkey) and the parrot who’s the voice of the tongue-less pirate - classy indeed, but some interesting mix of mythology, action, hint of romance, and of course, Cap’n Jack Sparrow - but while leaving, I was asked what the next flick we were going to see - options were Transformers, Harry Potter, “???” - not sure what comes out next in time-tables, so I’ll hafta refresh my trailer watching
I will say this, it is WIDE open for a Pirates 4, but I have a funny feeling they may try to make it into a spin-off based upon a character who I will leave nameless - but we shall see I imagine.
Tomorrow is the final stage of sprinkler day I think, so I should probably head to bed here shortly - but knowing me, I’ll probably be up for a few hours thinking about sleeping as I work on a project or two thats hanging around in the back of my mind - one project is coming along nicely, and if I can get it done by Monday - I hope to reward myself with an iPod or Camera Lens (leaning towards lens really).

So the day seems to be slowly coming to a close, so let’s start back a 2 mornings ago, since there are a few things I left out which I am excited about - namely cPanel 11 - it’s the newest release of the control panel I use on my servers, and wowza, its a leap better than ever - I put the “Current” branch on my test box for a little field testing, and must say - performs nicely even over a T1 thats got high-use mid day, things like Ruby on Rails, WebDAV, new Ajaxerific user front-end, etc. going to be a awesome upgrade for customers, very excited to be testing it right now.
Fast forward back to today - had dinner with my friends, got to chit-chat and catch-up a bit, had some delicious steak - and good conversation, was nice to seem them both - as it seems anymore its harder and harder to find some time for hanging out, but today I seemed to find it in abundance, as after leaving their place at almost 11pm, I made it to the theater about an hour before Spiderman 3 started, and hung out with Jake and his friends - was a good group for watching a movie.
Now as for the movie, I am not going to say “And then Peter DIED!” (well except for that one time) - but I will say as the man next to me said “What was with all the love story!?” LoL - now don’t get me wrong, in the 2h 20m of the film there is a lot of action, some amazing special effects (ie Venom) but the storyline is about love, forgiveness, etc. not that its bad, just not quite what I was expecting - but I stayed awake thru it, so apparently it wasn’t all that bad
Coming out of the theater I saw Lilith from Fluxar along with Mark and Joseph who I knew out of their group, my group of course kept going towards the door lol - but said hello chit-chatted for a second or two, then said goodnight, and of course everyone didn’t realize we’d be getting out of a movie after 2:30am, and thus suddenly no one wanted to go hang out at Denny’s anymore but I’ll survive.
So what does today hold for me? Well I am hoping a touch of sleep - dragging a little, as I got a brief nap this afternoon before my evening began, but I could use a few hours more… so for starters a nap here shortly, then the day will happy I suppose So I wish you all a happy Friday, remember, relax, and breathe.
Well after crazy weeks of servers, taxes, drama, deconstruction, reconstruction, and a hiatus from WoW (I’m surviving) - I finally as of last night, just passed out. I did it again today, had a day planned, and suddenly I was tired beyond anything, laid down again, and was out till about 5pm, nice to finally relax a bit, and I really have been trying to, thus why I had my little project this evening which let me put Linux on my old Tungsten T3, its not “ultra useful” but it works I suppose, charging up the battery right now so I can play a bit on the couch.
Tomorrow (granting I can stay awake) I plan to get started on cleaning my mess again room - its half done really, I do have the couch in here now, and with the TV Tuner I just snagged from Woot.com, I hope to have it all setup and where I can enjoy TV in my room from the Media rig, get to see if Windows Vista’s Media Center is any good - so hopefully so, I was excited to not pay $105 to get a tuner, but rather $35 - it looks like it could do good, but time will tell, if nothing else, a nice thing to hold me over a while.
I enjoyed the first disc of the first Season of Doctor Who (newest series) and enjoyed it very much, I have the entire first season in my queue on Blockbuster.com - so it should slowly come to me this week a bit, have a stack of Charity DVD’s to take back, she went with me to trade in my DVD coupons for her movies - but I have 3 onlines so I can trade out tomorrow I’d imagine… just need more popcorn.
Some things coming up, for instance the widget on the side, Heroes returns next week, a wedding next weekend, so pretty pumped up, the wedding should be fun, going to of course take in my camera, probably txt the bride this week and see if she wanted me there in any official capacity (if so a good excuse for a 4/8GB card) but either way, a wedding I am looking forward to, feeling so crazy, might even go buy a pair of pants (i know i know… be still your hearts)
Anywhoo - off to a evening of wild and crazy sleep (or at least loafin to some movies) Night All!
