random ramblings of a crazed nerd

I like my local branch of WaMu - as I noted last week with the odd fee, I figured a trip to the local branch might help, I printed my web copy of my bank activity, and took it in with a deposit I managed to get (still hoping for more today) - and the manager looked at it and said “Huh?” and she made some calls, she said she and the main office thought it was weird, and there was no reason they should of denied the $36 fee that was attempted, so she went and started a research bit to find out what happened in the system, and how it could be fixed up or at the very least properly shown to me to prove the error, because as she said, there was nothing on my online banking that showed it should of happened.

So she opened it, and also suggested at the correction of the error if I was charged any sort of non-payment/late fee, that the bank would cover it. Now that’s the WaMu I know and love, it’s just the same with anything I suppose, you get that one person who is just doing the job for the sake of a paycheck, then you have someone who still cares about their job wanting to help and go above and beyond that extra mile.

Anywhoo - busy day thus far, been up since 7:30 which is new for me, hoping to meet with the kMan as planned, still no call back from him, but I am mainly going to focus on coding as I don’t want to miss meeting with him if at all possible as I’d like to get paid as promised and get some real cash back in the bank, the rest of the outstanding folk who couldn’t pay for one reason or another, are all sending in checks, so more will be rolling in between now and Friday, the joy of money Have a good week folks!

So here I am at nearly 5am, I slept most of yesterday in the end, as my head started pounding again I just curled up under the covers again, and slept, got in some good sleep till 6ish, then again until 2:35am, which I woke up feeling a lot better, already sweating out a few fevers here, and since I felt stir-crazy, I of course went to the store for some supplies - I did the full walk of the store as it helped me stretch out a bit, but now I am back, and my plan is EE until I can get ahold of kMan about picking up my check.

Yesterday I got a job offer, 40k a year + bonuses, the nice thing about the job is it would let me continue my current projects and hosting, but it would probably in the end require me to move, and for once I think I’d be open to that - thus I am trying to stay positive about it and really just take it up in prayer, a steady cash flow would be wonderful, a steady 9-5 not a big fan, but I could still do maintenance as needed in the late hours of Fridays/Saturday (Like I do currently) with the exception that I’d no longer have a big money issue to worry about, being tight with FH/TN is one thing, but when there are two incomes to keep things rolling, let’s me level things out with FH, heck even probably swing some hardware upgrades sooner than later - so my first big prayer request of 2008 is for this new job! So keep me lifted up, other prayer request would be for me and my folks as we all seem to have this plague.

Anywhoo - there’s the catch-up for now, busy busy morning ahead, hope you all have a great Thursday!

Then try catching the current bug going around, I have gotten some work done the last few days, but yesterday I just finally gave in to sleep. Several bursts of sleep, followed up with the big one which had me sleeping till 3:45 - then I followed that up with a nice warm soak in the tub to loose up my head/neck - but now I think this calls for some warm tea and a fresh dose of meds.

All in all the last couple days have still been productive - not super productive, but I got things done, like started running numbers on servers again now that new pricing is up for 2008 on hardware, and I am not 100% sure at the moment, I laughed that in one layout I end up spending the same amount I do now, down to the penny. So not sure, granted that same price get’s me more hardware, more room, more ram, etc. but in the end I am trying to determine what’s the best course of action, not to mention really praying over it all.

So last night I was trying to get my linux box setup to a simple LAMP setup so I could work on a few things over the local network, I read I could use Tasksel under Ubuntu to set it up quick, so I gave it a whirl, and while I was in there of course, I figured, “I’ll just remove the Ubuntu GUI, I don’t use it.” and of course in doing so it shutdown networking, thus killing my SSH sessions into the box. So I tried hooking up the Mac keyboard (which worked before) as well as the bluetooth, however sadly it appears the BIOS battery died because USB Keyboard support isn’t working.

So I am going to get me a PS2 keyboard on it’s way since the adapter I have doesn’t like either keyboard - or the mobo is simply dead (which is possible, it’s very old) - so for now, I am without my Linux box here at home, probably should just buy a cheap modern mobo, and start from scratch again, been kind of wanting something more compact to fit on the desk, or not take up a foot of space under my desk (across) the current case I have is awesome, but it’s huge, and I am wanting less space taken up.

Only other option would be to ditch the idea of bringing back the linux box in it’s full glory, and instead just start saving to get the Mac Pro.. oh the choices 2008 brings me lol. So things are getting there, been a rough start to December, but it can only get better from here right? Today I should be able to one way or another tie up the loose ends with the budget for now, came up with a few stop gaps just in case, but I am hopeful that there will be a pile of checks in the box today, either way my plan should get things taken care of pretty easily - but if everything comes in this month as planned, there will be a nice surplus, and I’m not even to billing day yet - so here’s to hoping for a good december, and I can hopefully get ahead a little and be ahead for Jan.

In other news, FH newsletter going out this morning, I want to do some homepage makeover to better highlight hosting specials and such - but first things first, I need to wrap up the programming project, finished the RM one a week ago, but still hasn’t gone live, site owner has school, and work I’ll probably just move it over and give him directions on how to deploy it when he’s ready - the EE project is only some fine tuning on the display end, I am going to work on the admin more and leave in some place-holders for the add-on he emailed me about, but not code it until I get confirmation on the payment.

Anywhoo - that’s my random bit, I have been up for a long time now, pondering a nap, but I can’t oversleep as I need to get to the bank to deposit before 6:30 and the UPS Store closes at 6:30pm as well - so I need to get to the post office before 5, to the bank before 6, a busy afternoon/evening to prepare for, so setting 3 alarms, and going to nap for a while. What a week, seems like it went by insanely fast, thanksgiving was quick (but tasty), had the weekly Friday meal with friends, of course now I am here on a weekend, and sadly all I can think to do… Work. All in All projects are nearly done, some will be completed on Monday (Billing Shutdowns and such) - but this weekend is some final code bits, the RM project has been done in the realm of data conversion (all I was hired to do) but I am helping out with the layout adjustments to make it easy for him to update - just a few bits left to code, going to make all sub-areas pretty much the same, just need to make a homepage where he can edit and manage the main page.

So I am slow to work, I spent some time checking out the budget, and so far so good, it’s a tight month, but if all things come thru - ahead again, nice way to close out a month, I am hoping with 12/1 coming up soon I can get the Affiliate program going on both sides of the fence can encourage some folks to invite friends over to host with me, be nice to see some new faces, got 1 today, which was nice, but everyone keeps doing the “Simple” package - but such is the hosting game, folks get what they need, or are woo’d away with large product offerings with small dollar amounts attached… it’s going good though, hoping I can continue to get more coding projects - good infusion to the budget.
