Normal Foot and Flat Foot

My journey in to jogging/running has been an interesting one till this past week some light has been shed on the likely problem… My feet.

It’s summer – let’s be honest in Bakersfield sometimes wearing shoes in the heat is like boiling your feet alive, so sandals even for this ginger man are the shoe of choice! So the other day while Daisy and I were talking I had my sandal on the ground and my leg crossed and she looked over at my foot and asked quite simply:

Do you have flat feet?

Which led to the investigation that changed my own knowledge of my feet that I’ve been attached to for years – I have 1 normal arch and 1 flat foot. Which does seem to make more sense on my pain that occurs when running as one foot likely over compensates for the other and just causes some pain in general after some running.

So picking up an insert (or a pair of inserts.. apparently it tends to go with both feet lol) sometime today (about to finally stop being super lazy!), but all in all I am hoping that it is something that makes my journey into jogging/running something a tad bit easier and maybe too relieve some various pains from jogging/running that I’ve had in the past! Would be nice to get going and not have pain in my foot, hip or knee!

I have greatly enjoyed my journey to a more¬†active¬†lifestyle, having a lot more time outdoors, getting in exercise and continuing the journey of¬†weight loss¬†and in general a more healthy way of living my life – and from a few 5k’s now (Color Me Rad & Summer Series) I have¬†officially¬†had my first 10k this past weekend the Brian Waterbury Memorial Rock to Pier Fun Run¬†–¬†It was a great start to what I hope to be many more 5/10k options but too just some good time outdoors ¬†with the beautiful company show in this picture here – Daisy and I had a great time! She was staying in San Luis¬†Obispo¬†with her Mom and Sister and I further south in Grover Beach with my brother’s family & my parents – but I got to show her around and we had a blast!

The times were posted for the 10k and while I had hoped to have completed in an hour and a half, I missed the mark a little at 01:49:39 Рstill not horrible for me, but Daisy walked/ran with me as I am still getting there slowly but surely, but it was a fun weekend!

More events are coming up, more Summer Series (one today!) and another 10k in October,¬†The Springville Apple Run – should be a lot of fun and is a trail run of which I’ve never done, but after running on the beach, should be a interesting experience:

The Course of the 10k!

The map looks pretty cool, part of me wants to go at least walk it before hand to have a better idea of the course, but may just keep training and be ready day of ūüėÄ

All in all I’m excited to continue runs like these, I still want to do more Color Me Rad, though less likely out of the area, will probably continue to just a once a year bit of fun with friends and family as it passes through Bakersfield, but really enjoying the exercise! Like in my last post, a journey for sure, but this past weekend was a blast, just hope to keep moving forward both in health and in life! God is Good and I praise him for the ability to move and be active!

Job 17:9 (NLT)

9 The righteous keep moving forward, and those with clean hands become stronger and stronger.

Let’s get down to business….

For over 10 years I’ve owned my own business – maybe not the most successful in terms of dollars and cents, but I love it! I’ve had days I’ve not been a fan, and had stress from it, but in the end over the last decade it has changed and evolved into what it is now, something a bit more manageable!

Me and My Big Brother Ron (We are so cool!)
Me and My Big Brother Ron (We are so cool!)

I remember back in 1997-1998 working Modern Networks with my brother (okay so I was the tag-along to what big brother was doing!) it was fun! We had some folks we worked on their websites using a re-seller hosting platform and it was fun, I remember still using it years later as I split off and was doing my own thing for friends, helping host band websites, local ministry’s and such – and then joined a company bringing my customers and a slew of my own websites called Mass Communications – which was fun too as I got to work with friends like Dan, Adam, Tom, and My Brother as well! It was going well but took some snags and too just didn’t work as a long-term fit, but thus Thrust Networks was born.

The Business!Within a year of starting Thrust Networks a lot of changes were on-going – had outages, stress, a PG&E Gas Main rupture behind the building, many many many many many many many *breath* many many many nights without sleep or little sleep – had a break-in (or at least a window shattered by a rock) – but it was quite the first year of business – but then I began moving customers from our little rack shown here to datacenters outside of Bakersfield, as we were pushing the limits of a T1 line, a growing customer base between two companies, and there wasn’t room to keep it all local anymore, we’d out grown our local ability (well affordably).

As things moved forward outside of the local area, I began to see more and more needs out in the Christian Community, sites I was a fan of getting hit with overages/outages – needed to do something and thus FlockHosting was born to offer the Christian Community a safe and affordable option for hosting.

And things have been going since! Now over a decade later I’m still working on things! Thrust Networks is actually getting a site coded right now as I haven’t actually had a active website for Thrust Networks for nearly 8 years – FlockHosting is getting some TLC as we enter the second half of the year, and its all coming together nicely!

I am excited about what God can do with this business, what he can make happen and how he can support me and one day a family, it’s not perfect right now and is in a BIG growing stage, but like anything that grows it must be prepared for the growth to come, so big cleanup of servers, big change up of software/configurations – a lot of work is to come! Can’t wait to see what will happen over the next decade, but too looking around for options too for a side job maybe even part time to balance out the budget, pay down debt faster, and just get things smoother and smoother sailing!

For now though my business is doing its job, and giving me a place to live, but I want to see it flourish and grow and become even more, that one day it will do even more and more for more and more people, I’m blessed to serve – and hope to serve folks for many years to come.
