PS:81 – New Servers

For the two years I’ve been with a server company of which, we have had maybe five huge outages, no hardware failures, no “Oh hey, we lost your server” moments. I’ve been with some server companies over the years, and I’ve experienced a TON. I mean it all started way back when with my brother in our bedroom using a company in San Diego which did some amazing stuff back before “cloud” – they did a fantastic job, and they are still around!

But with some outages, and the latest dealing still with “Power” I have to make a move. I hate migrations, but I also love them, fresh hardware gives a new chance to push new configurations, also presents like in my recent testing errors like:

The system changed the password for the database user “XXXXXX” to a random string because the original password used an old and insecure format that is incompatible with MySQL version (x.x.x.x-MariaDB). You must manually change the password for “XXXXXX” to match the original password in order to ensure that applications that use the credentials will continue to function.

An easy fix (change the password to the old password) 🙂 but that’s easy when it’s in maybe ten sites of my own, throw in customer configurations Oi. 100+ sites migrated with a Database connection error? I can already fear the tickets…. so many tickets.

New servers are coming, looking at moving away from OpenVZ as well, I like its easy nature, but KVM would offer me the ability to do some things including a virtual desktop I want to setup over the VPN, so I have a Windows Rig in the cloud 🙂

Say a prayer, going to be a BUSY April!

PS:80 – Taxes Looming

Over the past year I’ve built out a folder with bank statements, and purchases – but this weekend it is coming time to put it all together. I need to move all my hosting billing into an accounting program and just at year’s end hit “DO TAXES” lol I hate tax time, but this year I’ve at least got most of it in line, just need to put it all together.

PS:79 – Busy day.

Today was busy busy. Had to re-work a server’s storage because of a strange virtualized setup, did a meeting on the phone in which Lilly was completely silent till the last minute just before hanging up lol and overall just an exhausting day.

Got a new customer though with a bit of a sad story, she has Parkinson’s Disease and has been blogging but now taking her blog to a new level to really spruce it up a bit more than a free service can do, so she’s going to be live soon, going to help if needed in getting her old posts moved over, but she’s pretty capable.

Hoping tomorrow will be better, bring change, and Lord willing, a slice of cake.

PS:78 – No sleep, Congested Kiddo

Lilly got a nap earlier in the day today, but tonight was super hard to get her to bed. For one, she was SUPER tired. You know that tired that is beyond tired and you know you should sleep, but you don’t feel like it’ll ever come? Well, she was at that spot. She brought me a snack and proceeded to lay simply down face first on the ground and cry since I said no to fruit snacks.

After about 2 hours of effort, singing, rocking, and youtube, she’s sleeping. I’m finishing up final tickets for the admin job, tomorrow video edit, site updates, and other tickets still pending. For now, I’m wrapping up so she can sleep without fear of waking her up!

PS:77 – Breathing…. Not as easy as you’d think.

I have been congested for two days now, and over the last 2-3 hours I’ve been drinking water, tea, apple juice, and right now I’ve got about 76% of my ability to breathe working. Oi.

This weekend presented with a big server project, physical hardware came in, and it was my part to get it running, and as we moved forward to ensure it was optimized & secured. Still a lot of work to do, and still hoping to see it moved forward when it comes to overall security as it’s about two years behind but I can’t upgrade without breaking a LOT of code.

So this week leaves me with a big pile, as usual, a kiddo who is puny and me who is also feeling at half energy – should make for a busy week. Hopefully, one we’ll see the end of soon!

PS:76 – 3D Print-ish

So I am still trying to figure out what I want to do with life, that … type stuff.  I recorded 32 minutes of video for FlockHosting’s monthly blog, it’s only three months behind, but then I found out a sad thing – ZERO AUDIO! Oh man, that made me sad, I had gotten into it. Talked about some cool things, but sadly, no audio! I recorded again and did a few takes of about 16 minutes of video; I guess it was a 32-minute  trial run. But leaves a lot of things out there which I am still saying “What next?”

A few things on the radar lately are some creative outlets, mainly 3D Printing. I am in love with the idea; I could make a real store on Etsy or even my own .com – I love the ability to create it on screen and print it out – makes me think of replicators on Star Trek. To it’s another avenue for funds, read up enough to find a mid-range printer with awesome quality, affordable filament, and a slew of tools free to create fun things! I mean folks are paying $10-$15 for cookie cutters on Etsy – but even for myself make promotional goodies like keychains and to gifts for family/friends.

Is 3D Printing my next jump in who I am? I’ve always been a tad of everything; even my father doesn’t know where what I can do stops and what I can’t do begins, he always told me he never knows what to tell people I do. Anymore I don’t know either.
