PS:196 – Only 11 remain…

So finishing this coding project, oi. I want a nap. This go-go-go may afford me to upsize my meal and get a large Powerade instead of medium, but this week needs some relax in it. Thus I’ve compiled the:

Things I would like to do this week so I can relax and rest and hopefully feel a lot better than I do right now list.

Clever list name I know. So the things I’d like to do:

  • Go get a massage.
  • Take at least 2 unplanned naps.
  • Get the 3D Printer fixed (it’s shifting about 3-4 inches up and ruining prints)
  • Fly the Drone
  • Setup a time-lapse somewhere cool!

I know I likely won’t get to complete all of these, but I hope to! I want to do the drone somewhere cool, same with the time-lapse I want it to be somewhere beautiful as I finally figured out settings!

Sadly there is a second list, it’s titled:

While I would love a break sadly the real world tells me I must get these things done list.

  • Move magazine website (it didn’t move this weekend, it’ll move Monday Night)
  • Shutdown 2 VPS servers Tuesday
  • Work on FlockHosting
  • Clean the Room
  • Clean the Truck
  • Do Laundry
  • Exercise

So we shall see what this week holds – tired. Achy. Off I go!

PS:195 – echo “Progress” . $amount;

Currently at about 50% – sadly didn’t get everything I wanted to get done, I’m at 12 remaining tasks out of about 40 (that’s only migration related) mapped out the final re-adjustments to the programming gig as I was waiting for backups to begin.

The big tasks I have in my robot actions is a GIANT magazine migration from ancient hardware as I mentioned the other day to modern, didn’t happen. Wish it had. Didn’t have everything I needed for one (no confirmation on IP changes from both sides) and secondly I had a slew of other issues as I migrated 200+ sites to a server, the same MySQL issue I’ve had before, since so many servers run well, we never upgrade. I’ve stuck at older MySQL for a while, but now as I have migrated about 4 legacy servers this past evening over, Woohoo! But it meant manually checking 200+ sites, by hand. Resetting passwords as I went along. Did you know on a MacBook Pro Core i5 with 8GB of Ram and a SSD you can open about 20 tabs at once (well with 25 other tabs open for migration/coding/music listening) it’s rather impressive.

One of the things I want to do once all projects are caught up is build a hackintosh, I have 2 builds I like, process seems fairly straight forward, but I also need to pull some hard drives and have a yard sale of computers, I have 2 laptops up for grabs, heck I think I’m going to post $200 OBO on Facebook, shipping not included, but machines which would be great for back to school! Save a few parents a few bucks vs. $800 laptops (Your welcome parents)

So that leaves more tasks for Monday, I’m going to lock down the people I need, set a specific time (6:30PM) and say “Hell or Highwater!” and just get-er-done. I need one less iron in the fire, getting there. Slowly but surely.

This next week I think its time to book my hydro massage, and real day off. Already feel lighter with this migration DONE, backup is already running to the new backup server, all customer DNS is backed up, still some work to do, but its cleanup not THE WHOLE PROJECT.

I want to get back to Tech Friendly Help & Light Unto, both projects I have great desire for, and for starters really just going to get into both and start queuing up content for mid-month and beyond, hopefully writing up until the end of the year, something to post at least 1-2 times a week or month (not sure which) but it seems like it’d be fun!

Well its nearly 5:30am, post in for the day, still much to do. For now sleep is my goal. Night.

PS:194 – After the dust settles…

The last 2 months alone I haven’t felt like me. At all. I feel like a machine just going through a list of instructions and getting done as much as I can squeeze in, taking every moment and filling it with work, tasks for others, and then more work.

Right now I’m trying to get in a blog post for an audience of maybe 2 people, I’m working on migrating 250+ accounts from 4 servers into one big boy with some great enhancements. I’ve got some pie (perl pie) lined up amazing one a single line of text can do.

I haven’t drone’d, photo’d, movie’d, walk’d or anything else I can think of that makes me me, except the sysadmin part, and I didn’t even get flowers on Sysadmin Day! Really just drained. Really tired. Really stressed.

The plan is to finish this pile of work – I do have to change some 200+ MySQL passwords tonight it seems because the upgrade is coming from such old SQL and I don’t work with the customers I’m moving, so no one knows how to do what I have to do, which is basically edit wp-config of about 200 wordpress sites, copy the password, change it on MariaDB (new engine, SQL compatible) – but once ALL of this is done, I’d love to get some more “me” specific time, a time-lapse, a drone flight, a trip to the beach to help a certain nephew setup a 3D Printer, Watch Give a Mouse a cookie 300 more times with Lilly (wild 2 yr old!)

Going to wrap up this post, going to go grab a snack I think, if I remember past hitting post.

PS:193 – Rebuilding Rome.

So I have had a slew of projects on the docket the last few weeks, one of the big ones is a magazine’s online version of their print publication, and I was brought in to pick up the pieces and put out fires where the other developer decided to move on to things that were “worth my time” as he put it. So I picked up the pieces, and to top it off, the server they inherited got 4 SMART Hard Drive notifications of pre-failure. Ack.

I’ve moved fairly quickly to get things sorted, online and operational including converting an old piece of hardware into a cloud server with 10x the ram, modern CPU and SSD glory. Very happy with the finished product, it has been a nightmare overall but it’s DONE.

I am going to now spend the next 2 days burning through code like mad to meet another deadline, Monday I have a 1pm meeting with a guy about his website design (need to put it online) and somewhere in there – nap time! Woohoo!

PS:192 – Insane Days

I have deadlines of this week, and nothing seems to be going right. Currently compiling apache, have code in another window, building out a site in which I’ve now been told “Work with _____” and while this person is a good guy – not sure why it has to be even further complicated – failing server is still not fully moved, data is moving like molasses. Servers I figured I’d move on Monday are going to be moved Friday->Sunday.

Top it off found out that I apparently “owe” a company money, for work they had someone else do. They pulled a project and refused to pay me, then had another company do the work I nearly had fixed, and apparently now have a balance do that some recent adjustments I made simply have been “applied” to my bill. None of which was ever run by me, but appears my previous contact is no longer with the company.

Lots to do. Lots to accomplish. Next 3 days is going to be a sprint to the finish!

PS:191 – Day of Stress

I’m taking a break in about 4 minutes to take a power nap. I’m exhausted. I’m fried. I’m hurting. Body can’t take many more weeks like this – need to amp it down a notch or three after this week for a while, let my body catch-up on sleep some, get out if the temperature drops and maybe fly the drone? See a movie? Take a nap? Not sure. Been a busy couple of months.

New servers deployed, loving em, already moving a TON of data, backed up first, pulling a live image now – have to figure out how to re-sync it after wards, as I can’t do a refresh on a live system, server won’t do it. Praying this works because honestly? If it doesn’t going to make the emergency migration tomorrow evening even more difficult. Nap time. Back in 45.
