We shouldn’t pray or read the Bible to make God happy with us; it should be simply because we love spending time with Him.

As I figure most realize, but maybe not all do – this blog isn’t “Charles a Brown” – rather it is indeed my middle name of Andrew, most folks don’t even honestly even think “Charles” when they see me, most have known me as Chuck or the more common “CHUCK BROWN!” but this past weekend I was able to meet my new nephew Andrew Michael Zoeller, he’s a handsome little guy:
Love him! Daisy and I made our way down to the hospital to hang out and help, we got to talk with my family and even escape for some food and later take the niece and nephew to get Jamba Juice (A first for me!) but it was a blessed day overall! Little guy has had a few little issues trying to be like Me as my mom says, borderline Jaundice, but he’s going to be A-OK as he has a praying family!
But that increases our Andrew count to the family by 1, earlier this year my cousin Amanda married an Andrew adding another then, we Andrew’s are taking over the world 🙂 Now if only were all gingers, but so far 2/3 of us are piano players, maybe Andrew will make it 3 for 3 one day 🙂
Many congrats to my Sister and Brother-in-law! Love em much! Look forward to being around to
warp shape this young little guy’s life, love my nieces and nephews! Plus need to get over there with the good camera and get some fun photos once he’s all settled in and his parents have a bit of rest 🙂
If you’re not moving toward your God-given destiny, you won’t have peace on the inside.

My journey in to jogging/running has been an interesting one till this past week some light has been shed on the likely problem… My feet.
It’s summer – let’s be honest in Bakersfield sometimes wearing shoes in the heat is like boiling your feet alive, so sandals even for this ginger man are the shoe of choice! So the other day while Daisy and I were talking I had my sandal on the ground and my leg crossed and she looked over at my foot and asked quite simply:
Do you have flat feet?
Which led to the investigation that changed my own knowledge of my feet that I’ve been attached to for years – I have 1 normal arch and 1 flat foot. Which does seem to make more sense on my pain that occurs when running as one foot likely over compensates for the other and just causes some pain in general after some running.
So picking up an insert (or a pair of inserts.. apparently it tends to go with both feet lol) sometime today (about to finally stop being super lazy!), but all in all I am hoping that it is something that makes my journey into jogging/running something a tad bit easier and maybe too relieve some various pains from jogging/running that I’ve had in the past! Would be nice to get going and not have pain in my foot, hip or knee!
I have greatly enjoyed my journey to a more active lifestyle, having a lot more time outdoors, getting in exercise and continuing the journey of weight loss and in general a more healthy way of living my life – and from a few 5k’s now (Color Me Rad & Summer Series) I have officially had my first 10k this past weekend the Brian Waterbury Memorial Rock to Pier Fun Run – It was a great start to what I hope to be many more 5/10k options but too just some good time outdoors with the beautiful company show in this picture here – Daisy and I had a great time! She was staying in San Luis Obispo with her Mom and Sister and I further south in Grover Beach with my brother’s family & my parents – but I got to show her around and we had a blast!
The times were posted for the 10k and while I had hoped to have completed in an hour and a half, I missed the mark a little at 01:49:39 – still not horrible for me, but Daisy walked/ran with me as I am still getting there slowly but surely, but it was a fun weekend!
More events are coming up, more Summer Series (one today!) and another 10k in October, The Springville Apple Run – should be a lot of fun and is a trail run of which I’ve never done, but after running on the beach, should be a interesting experience:
The map looks pretty cool, part of me wants to go at least walk it before hand to have a better idea of the course, but may just keep training and be ready day of 😀
All in all I’m excited to continue runs like these, I still want to do more Color Me Rad, though less likely out of the area, will probably continue to just a once a year bit of fun with friends and family as it passes through Bakersfield, but really enjoying the exercise! Like in my last post, a journey for sure, but this past weekend was a blast, just hope to keep moving forward both in health and in life! God is Good and I praise him for the ability to move and be active!
Job 17:9 (NLT)
9 The righteous keep moving forward, and those with clean hands become stronger and stronger.
For over 10 years I’ve owned my own business – maybe not the most successful in terms of dollars and cents, but I love it! I’ve had days I’ve not been a fan, and had stress from it, but in the end over the last decade it has changed and evolved into what it is now, something a bit more manageable!
I remember back in 1997-1998 working Modern Networks with my brother (okay so I was the tag-along to what big brother was doing!) it was fun! We had some folks we worked on their websites using a re-seller hosting platform and it was fun, I remember still using it years later as I split off and was doing my own thing for friends, helping host band websites, local ministry’s and such – and then joined a company bringing my customers and a slew of my own websites called Mass Communications – which was fun too as I got to work with friends like Dan, Adam, Tom, and My Brother as well! It was going well but took some snags and too just didn’t work as a long-term fit, but thus Thrust Networks was born.
Within a year of starting Thrust Networks a lot of changes were on-going – had outages, stress, a PG&E Gas Main rupture behind the building, many many many many many many many *breath* many many many nights without sleep or little sleep – had a break-in (or at least a window shattered by a rock) – but it was quite the first year of business – but then I began moving customers from our little rack shown here to datacenters outside of Bakersfield, as we were pushing the limits of a T1 line, a growing customer base between two companies, and there wasn’t room to keep it all local anymore, we’d out grown our local ability (well affordably).
As things moved forward outside of the local area, I began to see more and more needs out in the Christian Community, sites I was a fan of getting hit with overages/outages – needed to do something and thus FlockHosting was born to offer the Christian Community a safe and affordable option for hosting.
And things have been going since! Now over a decade later I’m still working on things! Thrust Networks is actually getting a site coded right now as I haven’t actually had a active website for Thrust Networks for nearly 8 years – FlockHosting is getting some TLC as we enter the second half of the year, and its all coming together nicely!
I am excited about what God can do with this business, what he can make happen and how he can support me and one day a family, it’s not perfect right now and is in a BIG growing stage, but like anything that grows it must be prepared for the growth to come, so big cleanup of servers, big change up of software/configurations – a lot of work is to come! Can’t wait to see what will happen over the next decade, but too looking around for options too for a side job maybe even part time to balance out the budget, pay down debt faster, and just get things smoother and smoother sailing!
For now though my business is doing its job, and giving me a place to live, but I want to see it flourish and grow and become even more, that one day it will do even more and more for more and more people, I’m blessed to serve – and hope to serve folks for many years to come.
Not been maybe the easiest month this ol June 2013, but all in all through it all, I am still standing & smiling! It has been a month of transition, change, and trial the latest two added to the pile was Thursday my business debit card getting stolen and over $1000 stolen from my account (One from Toys-R-Us for ~$640!), and then waking up Friday to find my passenger side tire flat beyond flat and that it was likely damage someone did to the tire as the side wall was likely “ice pick’d” as I was told later.
Now these sorts of things after a month of all-over-the-place would likely be a tipping point, however as you could ask folks about the day I found my card was stolen, I was actually smiling! And while finances are tight I realized God had it under control as I spoke with Zach at the Debit Card Fraud Services Department and he worked to shut down the card and tag the transactions as fraud, 0% liability, and he was super helpful on options to possibly get me my funds back on Monday much quicker!
Today I took my tire in and when they alerted me to the additional damage I didn’t see instead of charging me for a tire, Benino and his crew as usual took care of me and applied my tire warranty and helped get me a new tire and even got it all mounted in the ball park of $50! Still need an alignment and oil change, but one thing at a time 🙂
All in all, through the up and down of this month, in the end things are blessed – maybe not how I expected to have a Joyful June but I’m not giving up on the idea it can continue to be Joyful! Things seem to be re-focusing into what I think God is preparing to do in my life, I’m re-working the business a bit, lowering some costs and improving some services at the same time – and while it means some extra work, benefits should be a blessing to customers and myself! But things are changing and I’m excited about where they will go!
So please keep me in your prayers if you could, I know I am asking folks for that more and more, but it’s been one things that I wanted to do this year is really been transparent in my need for help but also accepting help when it comes, and still have some things I need to really work on when it comes to asking for help, but too God’s been amazing in having people offer me help as it’s always amazing to have folks just jump in to help, even Dan as he picked me up for Breakfast came and helped swap out my tire with some teamwork 🙂
Don’t let the devil steal your joy, today may be rough, things may be upside down, backwards and inside out – BUT God still has good things planned even when there’s a bump in the road, it doesn’t mean He’s not there, just means you need to draw closer and hold tighter to Him! He will see you through each and every step even if its bumpy.
I feel more and more lately like I need to be posting things, a lot going on in my mind, a lot going on in my heart – just seems to be a lot going on – but too there are things that seem to be attempting to steal my joy the last 24 hours alone.
Yesterday as I got ready for dinner with my parents, niece and girlfriend I saw emails from my debit card – it’s configured to alert me of transactions and when I saw amounts over $600… I got a little curious, and upon investigation over $900+ had been taken from my account, so I called up the card and disputed the charges and Zach from Debit Card support closed out my card, tagged the transactions and helped me out, even gave me a few pointers on getting things back to normal quicker, awesome support – but walked away smiling and not upset, listening to praise and worship most of the day, I was in a good mood and knew God had me squared away, even sent a nice fellow like Zach to make the process go smoother.
Today another bit of bad news, a flat tired on my passenger side – as I was backing out of my driveway to get to breakfast with my friend Dan I noticed I wasn’t rolling backwards smoothly, went back to my spot, got out – flat but honestly didn’t bug me a ton, I knew I could get a ride as we were going to carpool, but Dan even proceeded to help me jack up the car, get my spare on so I can get it taken care of later today – God still providing help thru my family (Dan is my brother from another mother) 😀
I’ve really been just focused on what God’s going to be doing, and I see clearly some of the things He has laid upon my heart, and I’m excited even while things like my finances, work, jobs, etc. all are coming crashing down on me, even those stresses I am smiling thru, because God has a plan, and even when things happen which are bad, God can use them for Good! Like Joseph he could of looked at all the things like being thrown in a hole, sold into slavery, thrown into prison as bad after bad after bad, but in the end it got him where God needed him – to server God and the people he loved!
To share a little of what I have on my heart and in my mind right now, I really want to try and put together a day of Praise and Worship here in Bakersfield, I want to get a park and a good venue as well as the musical acts locally of all styles to come and just flood a park area with awesome music, Christian Shop owners to come have booths to sell shirts, bibles, etc. etc. as well as churches to come out and represent with their booths and encourage folks to find local churches where they can worship and serve!
So thats just a taste, and I think I have some good ideas on where and how I can accomplish that! So excited to see what God will do in my life right now, and while there are waves all around me crashing down, and things that may for a moment take my view off Christ, I keep coming back to God and the things He is setting up to do in my life! Finances may be tight, tires may go flat, but if God’s called you to do something He will see you through all of the trials that may come your way, and all the attack the devil may try to hold you up with, but God is Good and will prevail!
I am pressing forward, I see things God is working in my life, and yes times may be hard now and again but even as my breakfast with Dan today we talked about the things in our own lives going on, we can’t stand still sometimes – so in many things I step forward in faith expectantly moving forward knowing God is going to do amazing things in my life and the lives of those I love!
So yesterday I finally got to experience my first Summer Series 5k! 2 weeks ago when it started I was going to go, but a bad turkey sandwich took me out of commission 🙁 so this week I started and am still frantically hitting refresh to see what my final time was according to the chip!
I’ve done a 5k or three in my time, photo above is the last one I did earlier this year with some friends and family, I walked it all – but Color Me Rad while a great 5k (and I’ll likely do it again!) isn’t really something I push myself to get a better time in – and thus at the encouragement and invitation of my girlfriend I undertook the task of my first chipped (timed) 5k! Still waiting on the final time but around 50ish minutes, maybe around 53 tops, but I am still getting to where I can run/jog some sections, still not 100% there but its a start!
This is all really just prep at some level as I am doing a 10k (my first!) next month in Morrow Bay – It’s called Rock to Pier – I am going to make an effort to run as much as I can, do better at the coast, cooler, better air, and soft ground along the beach! So looking forward to running as much as I can in that, but my target best time 10k I have scheduled is in October in Springville – it’s the Apple Run! Should be a lot of fun, as it too starts of the Apple Festival there, so looking forward to a fun 10k and fun around the festival 🙂
It’s truly been a journey with my weight/health, in 2009 (Picture to the right) I had already lost a considerable amount of weight as I started a day job in which I was MUCH more active, and that shirt was a 3X, waist was 48/50’s and now down to a XL and a 36 waist! It’s been an amazing transformation overall, and it continues and happy to see the scale continue to go lower, and have my waist get baggy, and have clothes which are easier to fit in, but I’m not stopping anytime soon! Just going to keep active!
If you thinking about doing something to get your health going in a better direction, consider walking! Don’t have to start off with a 5k – walk around your block, for me it started that simple, after movement from the day at work racked up some steps, I was curious “How many steps?” so I ventured out and got me a FitBit (website), amazing to see my steps, and the amount of activity, calories burned etc. so I’ve kept to it, and now adding in jogging, and working towards running, its getting better and better! But get active! Find a fun event out there, in Bakersfield there are always a varied number of Run’s but read them, most allow folks to walk – but if you don’t know of any, check Active.com they usually have some events nearby!
Likely will post soon my final time – but for now I will sit and hit refresh 🙂 If your ever looking for a walking buddy to get you motivated and I live near you – ask! Be encouraged today and know sometimes all it takes in small steps to get to a run!
Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)
31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
My blog is reborn. Still not designed, but a fresh start was needed. Why? Because the past can have too much power over us, it can provide lessons but it can be something if we hold on to can bind us up and chain us to the past – and I’m not talking just bad things, I’m talking lost in the good things that have since past, I smile at much of my past that has been contained previously in this blog, but its time for those thousands of moments to be put to rest, and let be the past so as to move towards the future.
Philippians 3 (NIV)
13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
I have a pretty awesome future ahead, and some of that is thanks to learning the lessons of my past, but things have been changing and while some days are a challenge, its not anything that doesn’t refine me, and build me into even a more refined “CHUCK” 🙂 and that’s one thing I’m making an effort to reflect here – the site used to be entitled “Random Ramblings of a Crazed Nerd” and there was a time that fit, but I’m changing and a “Nerd” is only part of who I am, but this blog I want to be come something thats a blessing and a encouragement and a more clear example of who I am overall – It’s going to be about my life, and my journey through it.
So what’s going on? Change. Lots and lots of it! Things in my life have been amazing! I’m not going to lie there have been rough days, we all have them! But through those things furthering a more refined version of the Chuck who God is making me to be, so I can’t complain about the results I just look forward to what the finished product will be!
Things are moving forward, my relationship is happy, building & growing, my business has some momentum, my faith is getting stronger and stronger, and I’m looking forward to a future and a journey with happiness and people that are going to bless my socks off and I theirs! So this blog is going to be something to really just Praise God for what’s going on in my life and hope that it will be an encouragement to others.
I hope you’ll stick around, I hope you will still check in for updates, and trust me those are going to be changing to a format that was used off and on in catch-up posts in the past and I may adopt a more refined version of that too likely using various post formats to post assorted things like images and such which I find uplifting, as well as begin using my own storage for sharing photos vs. some online services, not to mention video blog or two 🙂
For now I’m going to wrap this up, I have a video to get up and online for FlockHosting and some laundry and cleaning too! (Probably should eat something soon too) But stay tuned, going to have some options too for subscribing to updates as well as cross-posting to Facebook/Twitter so folks who desire can keep up with my life and this journey I am on – I leave you with a photo of me and my nephew from a recent beach trip as we climbed a big rock we celebrated our victory 🙂
