A new week is ahead. It starts at 6AM today. Here’s to hoping it goes smoothly, and that I find some time to rest in there somewhere, didn’t get much sleep at all this weekend. Going to call it a night.
I love being creative. I do it with IT all the time! Create a fix, create a solution, create a working product.
Lately, though my artistic side is wanting to come out more and more. The drone is a huge element of that, my camera, getting out there and capturing the world. I have a ton of photos now that this site has had an upgrade or two, I want to upload more photos, avoiding social media sites for now on the element of posting out there, then worrying about copyright and such.
I too want to explore making things – the 3D Printer is a huge part of that push. Make a toy for Lilly, replace a broken piece of something, cookie cutters, random gadgets for an Etsy store! Yes, my creativity can be a touch of profit, most of it would likely be simple enough just to go back into the pot for creativity.
After taxes, and I pay Ceaser what he is due. I am going to look seriously at the 3D Printer, even looked at BestBuy while shopping for a mouse, their only expensive option is small compared to what I am looking at now, but their 3D Scanner… might require a long-term investment 😀
For my birthday, I got a Raspberry Pi 2. It’s a $35 computer which runs Linux and can do some pretty awesome things. Youtube search, and you’ll find a slew of videos where folks have made it into all sorts of servers! Home Automation, Classic Arcade Game Station, Entertainment System, the list goes on and on.
I personally, however, am using it for the following things:
- Internet Checkup – Does a speed test on the hour and saves the results to an excel file.
- LAMP – Allows me to setup websites on my local network to build/design.
- Ad-Blocker – Ad-Free Internet Browsing!
For $35, you can pack a lot into this little bugger.
As a Linux Guy it does allow me to do a lot of linuxy work stuff on a simple platform and long-term I want to try some projects which I can control things like a touch screen, etc.
They recently for the same price released the Raspberry Pi 3 which now includes WiFi and Bluetooth, mine came with a Wifi dongle in the pack, but with wifi built in, it should make things a lot easier for folks to deploy (and less bulk).
So I’ve had a talk moving forward on my job offer. It sounds great. Still not all the specifics as of yet like things in the pay, benefits, etc. but very light ground work laying out for me what I would do.
I don’t mind the 9-to-5 job. It is nice to work with a crew and build something. I worked as the “IT Director” for a lab supply company for five years, before that I was the “eCommerce Guy” for a growing web firm, before that I was “IT Coordinator” for a High School Design Acadameny. Each has had it’s perks to it which have been nice.
This company has been awesome to work for as a contractor, and my brother works at this company too but has been insanely hands off, even to the point that I report to other people. I’ve even had the CEO hit me up and pick my brain even to the point he had me migrate a family members website to his servers.
So 9-to-5 solid, some options for bonuses based upon some factors if I can grow things for them (shouldn’t be too hard) and no conflict in working my own thing! Though moving forward some of my client base, if things seem solid, I may consider just bringing them into the fold.
I’ve been in and out today, but trying to keep with the post something every day, I’m up for a short bit – so here’s my post! Hopefully, this next week I’ll have a firm offer, heck even an active new job.
