PS:364 – Samsung Galaxy S8+

So I got off the bandwagon. iPhone 7 Plus is gone, and the S8+ is the new daily driver. Not a huge move for me honestly, mainly because I’ve been using Android and iOS for years, granted the “Samsung” aspect is always a pain, but out of the options, it was the best.

I have most of the phone setup as I’m sitting here working, even trying out the nice headphones that came with it (it has a headphone jack, remember those?) 😀 but it’s working great – the only thing I’m missing is the Stripe app for CC processing review when I have things get paid for, now I do get email notifications which will have to do, but I need to find an alternative eventually as I do like being able to manage CC processing from my phone.

It has been a long day, blood draws, phone activation issues, and now I realize once again, I need food. So off I go to get grub.

PS:360 – 5 more to go.

By no means did I actually do a post a day for a year, but I’m rapidly coming up on a full year worth of posts. Not exactly the feat I had in mind when starting this PS idea, but none the less I’m coming up on finished.

Tonight I’ve been trying to focus on working. It’s not working. I’ve torn down a site, put it mostly back together, then tore it down again.

I’ve looked at my code on a program, and realized that it’ll never work, but not because the code is bad, but because the guy who coded the original site didn’t give any data manually inputted any different than something inputted by the nightly import from an external dataset. So I can’t purge outdated entries, without destroying the entire database. Fun.

And lastly, had my blood sugar spike and feel like crap. Yes, it’s 1:13 am, and I’m going to go for a walk. Maybe it’ll clear my head, maybe it’ll lower my sugar, maybe I’ll come home and just pass out. It’s been a long day.

PS:358 – A month later…

Oi. Moved. Done. Not completely unpacked/organized or fully setup – but the other house is done.

I’m tired. Very tired, but works never stops, life doesn’t stop.

So here I am on my laptop as my desktop is once again completely messed up, sadly the world of Hackintosh has left me with a kernel panic and a non-working station, which sucks, and I’m considering re-building from scratch or making a Linux workstation that just simply rocks.

The world of Mac may not be something I’m going to stick around with too long – but then again time will tell – but for now some code to work on tonight for a few projects, going to write a HUGE script that imports data raw from CSV -> SQL to make it accessible to re-generate content for a site as needed, because as it stands it requires a re-import 5000+ items, and that is time-consuming when only a single item is the issue, a full re-import can take up to a few hours especially when its re-processing all item photos.

For now – work, laundry, sleep (eventually).

PS:339 – The NAS Project – Prepping!

So here we are the day of delivery, and I’m set. Both active drives are rsync’d over to the 3rd 5TB drive, so that’s done. They are also actually backed up on Backblaze as well which is awesome!

I’ve removed the two drives already from their enclosures – wasn’t too hard, pocket knife worked perfectly, a phillips screwdriver to get the control board off and remove the side screws, 2 drives ready to go.

Now the plan is pretty simple honestly:

  1. Setup the two pulled drives as RAID1.
  2. Connect the 3rd Drive as USB External Storage
  3. Sync the contents of drive 3 to the RAID1 array
  4. Remove the USB Drive when finished.
  5. Remove drive from enclosure
  6. Add 3rd Drive upgrade from RAID1->RAID5.
  7. Take a nap.

Pretty straightforward all things said and done. I plan to video and document things a bit too for a piece on TechFriendly Help which is online and operational, I think I’ve finally settled on a mostly completed look, going to add some minor tweaks here and there – but this is going to be too one of my first video projects that is not a FlockHosting Update.

I want to document this model because the AS1004T hasn’t been reviewed in the US for some reason, the AS1002T has (the 2-bay unit) but the 4-bay unit I got isn’t really covered and honestly? If it lives up to its specs and functionality – it’s an amazing deal.

This NAS project should really make life a bit easier long-term, a lot of things coming up in the next few months, likely one way or another moving, tech is going to be one of those things which may be a bit hard to have access to sadly, so trying to up my game and really streamline the office.

For now, its nearly 4 am – and I’m dead tired, but can’t get to sleep again, so watching my Omega2+ update my cryptocurrency – going to try and sleep again if I can. Morning is going to come insanely early – hopefully my NAS will be delivered before nap time 🙂 and who knows maybe a small pile of checks will be waiting too!

Happy Monday – Enjoy the eclipse!

PS:338 – The NAS Project

Over the last 48 hours, I’ve been re-arranging data, I have 3 x 5TB Seagate USB External Drives, of course, they are all really 3.5″ drives just come in a handy enclosure to use externally.

I’ve managed to rsync one drive to the 3rd, it only had about 500GB, however, the primary drive I’ve used is 2.6TB in storage used. Rsync has been building the list for about an hour now as I’m trying to do the final syncs to shut down another drive – all in all I have the first round of data, but just want to be sure all is ready to go.

Since I’ll have 2 drives cleaned I can make myself a RAID1 array setup on the NAS for starters, then I’m going to mount the USB drive that’s left as an external drive and rsync all from it to the new RAID1 array, once done, I can migrate the array to RAID5 array and expand it out to give me 10GB  total storage, leaving one drive for tolerance for fail.

Long term I’d love to go RAID10 with all 10TB drives, but for now, RAID5 with 3 will do, maybe add a 4th and give myself another 5TB of active storage but don’t directly need that yet, though I do have a few price watches out there for insane deals on standalone 5TB drives or the same Seagate external drive I have now 🙂

For now, it’s nearly 5 am… I haven’t slept well tonight and didn’t eat yesterday other than a bag of popcorn, so going to try and close my eyes again and see if things improve. More on my NAS adventure probably Monday once it comes in.

PS:332 – No Rest. Lots to Do.

So here we are at nearly 3:30 am, seems like a rather common place for me, tonight the culprit was an old PHP app which is showing growth pains (seems to be the usual culprit, sadly its all the same collection of apps in a big website) but I solved the issue in part.

It was creating far too many elements to toss into an array in a cookie, and at some point the garbage was overwhelming and not letting the actual new info in. Easy fix? Cut it down to 100 items displayed. Now customer will likely want those additional items displayed, but for starters? It’s allowing adding/removing – hoping it doesn’t fiddle with reports, but again this thing was not built with the idea this would ever happen.

I have another website I was tinkering with tonight, however, I think I am going to wrap up, thus why I am sitting at the workstation just taking some time to chill out and write. One of the reasons I have it setup. Now granted things are wobbly, I used this as a temp desk before my door desk, but I have a few desk options in mind to build (or get lazy and buy it at IKEA) 😀

Did manage to snag a $300+ monitor for half price, and it’s very crisp, clean and so far working smoothly (writing this using it) a lot nicer than my current monitor on the other desk, but another expense for another year as I doubt the other one is going to die, and it’ll work for now 🙂

Ramblings aside? It’s been a rough couple of weeks. A lot of stress, before I dug back into the code actually just stopped – took a minute, got my bearings and dug back in completing what needed to be done TODAY. More to do later once I wake up, praying things continue to improve and get better, need less stress.

PS:327 – Forward.

I know You got this whole thing under control
My soul is untouchable because
You’ve already won me
My victory is not in this flesh and bone
It’s in the cross and I know
Nobody’s taking it from me

It has been a rough week. Yesterday was one of those days where everything that could of went wrong, did. I lost a couple hours of work I could have picked up. That’s a rough one because it seems like lately, the hours are less I can pick up, nothing is coming in on a regular basis.

It’s summer and I try to remember that some folks are simply just not in the “do business” mood, they are on break, they are on vacation, they are out and about. Still rough.

The above song has been playing on repeat lately, it’s just one of those reminders that this life, this flesh, and bone is indeed temporary.  I keep trying to shed stress when and where I can, even tonight here at 2:39 am – unwinding with some tea, some music, working on finishing a website for another 30 minutes, then 30 minutes on editing a video I had hoped to have edited yesterday, then hopefully bed before too long.

I need to knock down a lot of random projects here this week, and at every turn it’s been time on everything else, but did pick up some coding work re-working an entire import system – but I don’t think that’s going to improve itself overnight, nor in a few hours of coding today, so going to focus on my own business for a bit.

Night (or Good Morning) 😀
