When I was 18 I started this wacky journey being a “Web Designer” – one catch. I’m not super artistic. So while I can make a website, I’m not good always at putting the graphics together that really scream “WOAH! AWESOME!”.
Well somewhere along the line where Miva Merchant came into play. I had learned Miva’s Scripting language doing some eComm for another customer, and that led to a job in which I was administering a Linux box to run Miva Merchant for my first major job outside of the comfort of ye-old safety-net, and that’s also where I started to diverge from designing print ads for the local Christian Production Company and helping a band/friend with a website design – while not good, it was also early in the web – not the fancy flash/shockwave era 😄
But as I moved towards eComm, I continued to go down the rabbit hole that was Server Administration, set up my workstation to run Linux and tried to dig in deep. I have dabbled now and again and built out a website or two, but honestly? Hosting the pages was more of the thing I did vs. create them.
Well with the most recent build of FlockHosting.com I took to the editing board and built out a site. It worked. It was clean, it fit, and it’s online still – but it hasn’t stopped there – recently re-designed and built out the local Christian Radio Station’s site, and freshened it up.
Yesterday though I had some projects thrown on my lap and was asked if I had all of the graphical assets if I could make the site functional? So I figured, what could it hurt to take some images and organize them a bit and see if I could make a site. I did. Worked great – and that’s opened a few more projects for me. 👍
So while I’m currently taking a Network Certification training course (CompTIA Network+) – I’ve got a website or two in the works, building out things and banking some time – thus its nearly 2:30am and I need to sleep – but funny that I’m full circle building out sites again. Good times.
So I have been pondering things for a while related to switching away from the world of Mac. I actually just sold my Samsung 503 Chromebook to an old friend, it goes to live with her on Wednesday, and I have the C200M on the block to be sold as well.
I have been looking at the Chromebook 15 from Acer, it’s a 15-inch touch-display, Android Apps without any dev channels, beta channels or nasty hacks to get them work. I checked a box and it’s done.
I love the screen, the speed, the specific nature of what I can do, honestly its a good fit with a 12-hour battery life, and USB-C for charging its a nice fit. Different. What Mac always was about – but lately I just feel like Mac is becoming more about what they can put into a product to make a few more dollars. Everyone’s got to eat.
But we shall see how it goes, I’d love to have it all pan out and become my daily driver – and over the next few days. Chome is now my home? Time will tell.
So here we are, a year of posting is done, granted it wasn’t 100% a solid day-for-day year, but it’s done.
Excited day for me, seeing even lower blood sugar today, and yet tomorrow is the big day in which I go from the base dosage of the new med to the full dosage. 10mg -> 25mg – If I’ve seen a HUGE drop in sugar already should be interesting to see how a full dosage leaves me, will it be like coming off a drug (sugar) for so long my body is in “normal” ranges might be rough for a few days.
I have a meeting on Monday that should give me some direction for 2018 I hope, some projects to take on for a company I’ve been doing work for, should have more direction after a call tomorrow I hope. Then again, their track record sadly it may not ever happen – so not completely holding my breath.
It’s also another day switched over to Android (S8+) vs my previous iPhone 7+ – I’m pretty happy so far, I’ll feel a bit more confident once my screen protector and case come in, as it stands a tad slippery for my tastes, but aside from that the phone performs pretty well. I do miss Stripe having an app, but not a show stopper as I made some rules to send my phone a notification when payments come in which will work same as the email but more in real-time.
So things are moving forward, again don’t think I’ll do a PS: subject any longer, but my goal is to try and make a post daily.
